I took them out & even cut up the puzzle. Luckily I had the 3rd edition CoC box set to store it all in afterwards. I got the module second-hand, and it included character sheets that someone had photocopied already. That's probably the safest thing to do for all of it if you're worried about losing pieces.

I think leave it, just photocopy/scan and print what you need.

Gerard Nerval well, I'm less worried about losing pieces than I am damaging what is, effectively, a collectible.
