Solo RPGs on a mobile device: So I've wanted to find a setup that lets me play solo RPGs using mobile apps (while I'm on the bus or whatever) and I think I might have found a promising candidate suite of apps. Trello, which is a very light project management / task list app, maps reasonably well onto the index card driven format of Microscope, a world-building storytelling RPG. I'm going to give it a shot with three 'players', one of which I have full control over and the other two are run using the Adventuresmith app (probably mainly using the GM's Apprentice and Mythic generators). If I get results that are Not Crap, I'll try to post here.

Our Last Best Hope - The Killer Asteroid- Act 2 - Scene 3 - Hema & Brett
Our Last Best Hope - The Killer Asteroid- Act 2 - Scene 3 - Hema & Brett
Got a little bit stuck here. Either it's my tiredness or maybe it's a weakness of the transcript or the parser. I think it's how the movie transcripts slant. Scenes where I'm not focusing on personal lives, but rather on the crisis and actions related to it have gone faster and smoother. When the focus is on personal lives and relationships, I've had a harder time finding results I can integrate.
Still, it sort of worked out here with the pauses and changes in subject (which provided surprise). Oracle questions also came to the rescue (a last resort for me).

Okay, so I got a LOT of feedback on this. I think that this is an even better version of the rules. It's got expanded mechanics, clarification and flavor. Now you can level up! Enemies might drop loot! Abilities have names!

One Page Solo Engine
One Page Solo Engine
After seeing Alto Dizi's fantastic one-page "superlite" solo RPGs, I thought it would be cool to try and make a one-page sheet that contains a complete solo engine that can be used with any game system.
The idea is to condense all the essential solo components down to the very basics and make a super simple engine that new players can use to become familiar with the solo toolkit elements while still playing a game system they're familiar with. A specific goal was to include all of the major solo tools (scene structure, oracle, complex questions, NPC actions, dungeon generation).
Here is my first attempt at creating something like this... and I haven't actually... y'know... playtested it at all. So if anyone wants to give it a try or has any comments, please let me know. I took inspiration from pretty much everywhere... Mythic, CRGE, Scarlet Heroes, Location Crafter, So1um, various one-pagers, etc, etc.
Edit: Reposted because I messed up the link formatting and couldn't manage to fix it.

This is a solo or 2-player (or probably more player) dice game. Think Yahtzee with fighting. The entire deal is one sheet. Please let me know what you think!

Following the advice I received here, I set up a starting point for my next Chain Reaction skirmish campaign. I thought I'd keep Claude, the protagonist of the previous games. I defined three other simple MiSo characters and will add more as I go.

More urban adventure in Scarlet Heroes. This time I ran combat correctly (or at least less incorrectly) and fleshed out a bit more about what was going on.

Life has been busier lately, so not much gaming was happening. However, I received Bolt Action 2nd Edition for Father's day. I'd been interested in it for a while, and it was a great gift. My main interest was to have a use for all my ASL chits that I acquired in my stuttering start to learning that system.

While Bolt Action breaks it's platoons into individual soldiers, Ive been having fun learning the rules and adapting them to the chits and hexes. The rules are much more streamlined than those which the components were designed for, but still leave enough choices to avoid it feeling too generic or boring.
I'll certainly be picking up the Osfront campaign book and army books for the Germans and Soviets in the future.
Recently, I have played several games with Chain Reaction 2015, a free solo-friendly skirmish system by THW. I plan to use this rule-set in the future, adding a few simple custom rules to use my beloved toy robots together with the usual crappy army men. I want to add some role-playing, or maybe story-telling, linking the scenarios together, but I am still undecided on how to do it. Maybe, I will just go freeform, with a random generator (e.g. GameMaster Apprentice's cards) and a binary oracle (FU dice). Among the stuff I have seen, the closest to what I am thinking of is Platoon Forward, a generic campaign supplement by TooFatLardies. This allows to generate events and character interactions between skirmishes. But I am not sure I am willing to go through the complexity of pages and pages of tables.

Recommendation for solo engine for room-based game needed
Recommendation for solo engine for room-based game needed
I plan to herd some Alfheim characters through a solo run. I'll probably just use Miso RPG [^1] with a 5 room dungeon [^2] as the solo engine to keep it simple.
My main interest is to learn how the ICRPG system works.
ICRPG lends itself well to room based design. Should I use something different? Schweig's Generator? Location Crafter?
Here are the characters I made, no actual play yet. http://dieheart.net/ap-icrpg-chargen/

Ladies and Gentlemen, I have to apologize to you all. I am just now remembering that I have a looot of Mythic RPG content posted online. This was originally started years ago as a exercise to better learn Mythic and to create my own system.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I have to apologize to you all. I am just now remembering that I have a looot of Mythic RPG content posted online. This was originally started years ago as a exercise to better learn Mythic and to create my own system.
What have I made exactly? Let's take a long look:
Homebrew Magic System (originally posted on the Mythic fan club first, here second, my Tumblr third)
D&D 3.x
Pathfinder
Tunnels and Trolls
Fallout
Skyrim
My first Mythic RPG Actual Play (created for this site specifically, that is) that was originally posted on here
Exodus the RPG
(My) Sole Survivor (Fallout)
Supernatural (TV Show)
Order of the Stick (webcomic)
Our Little Adventure (webcomic)
DC Comics
Marvel
Dragon Ball
Riddick
Lesser Slenderman
John Wick
Morgan (The Walking Dead)
and soooo much more! (still need to post more from my Mythic RPG folder, actually haha)
For the Strengths/Weaknesses section of the Mythic RPG character sheet(s) I have shown some of applications of the suggestions mentioned in my Character Creation video. Those familiar with D&D 3.x, Pathfinder and GURPS will see some of the strengths and weaknesses to look very familiar.
Also, all character sheets made at freeform. Morgan's will be seen as "incomplete" and that's to show that you don't need a drawn out character sheet to use the Mythic RPG engine.
Anyone struggling with understanding Mythic's engine please give this a look. All questions are definitely welcome. Thank you and please enjoy! :D

Act 2 - Scene 1 - Taking on the Threat
Prior to this scene, I messed up another rule regarding effects after a roll. I thought only amounts above 5 or above caused effects. we should have taken harm in some rolls, and the threats should have been reduced further in other rolls. In Act 1, when Black dice were added to the event pool, I should have gotten story points too, but I forgot.
So, it kinda balances out, but it's stupid, because I think I played it correctly before. I need a cheat sheet.
In this scene, I think I got all of it right, but we'll see upon review .

And the third episode of Rumbles from the Rifts is in the bag folks......that's a WRAP peeps...
For your pleasure here is it Darrel Miller,Rory O'Connor,John Fiore,Virginian John,Tina Trillitzsch,Karl Hendricks,Aleksandar Battreps
RftR Episode 3 “Lassoes Away “
Setting - Thunder Rift, North of Melinir in the foothills
Tone - Basic DnD seriousness, deadly, but can be kind of silly
Danger Scene - a location, a threat attached to location and threat is pursing someone or something
Location - Bridge Icon, A bridge crossing a medium sized tributary of the Drake River
Threat - letter icon, a Message bearer
Pursuing someone/something
At a bridge, north of Melinir in the foothills, a message bearer is pursuing someone/something
4 Danger Scene Questions
What is the message bearer pursuing? A goblin mounted on a warg
Why is the message bearer pursuing the goblin? The goblin has a key entrusted that was entrusted to the message bearer.
How did the goblin get the key? The goblin snuck a poison into the message bearers flask, however, the brandy weakened the poison, only causing the message bearer to sleep for a brief moment, by all appearances dead.
Who gave the key to the message bearer? The key was given to the message bearer by the Flightless Arrow.
Heroic Entrance
Sige is the hero for this episode. Sige is the resident Gray Patch, the local constabulary for the Melinir Hills area. Sige trained as a Ranger and is a mighty fine hand with his lasso.
4 Actions for the Danger Scene -
Preamble - Making my way over the latest hill in front of me I come over the top and look down into a glade where a branch of the Drake River is forded by a small bridge. Normally there isn’t much that goes on in this neck of the wood, but not today. Racing across the bridge, in a comical sort of way, is a goblin on a warg, chasing this sight is a rather tall lean, boring looking man on a very nice horse. Since a goblin running from a human is not a normal occurrence I figured I better investigate the matter.
1. I am going to try to intercept the goblin by cutting across country to head him off at the pass?
Reaction - green card, sweaty face and a BUT
I take a long set of strides, managing to eat up the ground under my feet. Catching up to the warg isn’t much of an issue as he looks tired, but as I get close to the point where we would intercept the wolf lunges at me.
2. I want to catch the warg and tie him up by using my lasso.
Reaction - green card, embarassed face and a BUT
I manage to lope the lasso around the wargs feet, but as I do I haven’t set myself properly and the speed at which the warg is travelling pulls me off my feet. The warg goes down, gets tangles in my rope whilst I stand up and dust myself off.
3. I want to knock the goblin out by hitting him on the head with the pommel of my short sword.
Reaction - red card, neutral face and BUT
I come upon the goblin, who looks to be stunned, but as I free my sword from my scabbard the little monstrosity jumped up and ran to the Drake wherein he jumps in. The rider on the horse stops besides me, wanting to know who I am. I tell him my name is Sige, a member of the Gray Patch, out keeping an eye on the area. The man, doesn’t give me his name, which makes me a little suspicious, nor any information about what is going on…..
4. I want to find out what is going with this man and goblin by asking questions of the man by using deception, guile and good old fact finding questions?
Reaction - green card, gotcha face, and AND
Using skills that I have honed over years of talking to and at people I get the man, named Barious, to tell me his name (which you just learned), the fact that he was on a mission to return a key to his master when he succumbed to an odd sensation that made him sleep deeply for a very short time, during this conversation an odd thing was mentioned, the key is important to an organization named the Flightless Arrow, which Barious immediately realizes was a little too much information. He reverses himself, told me it was king’s business and best left to him. I doubted that was the case, but I kept that to myself…..
Intrigue Scene - A Terrible Secret attached to the someone or something, in this instance the goblin.
Keyhole icon and dice - the goblin stole the key because it will allow his masters, the Crooked, to unleash a magical wave of utter randomness into the Rift.
3 Questions for the Intrigue Scene
Who are the Crooked? They were at one time keepers of the justice, but their effects have seen been perverted.
How is the goblin going to get the key to the Crooked? By using the Astral Path, a series of gateways, that if known lead to many different places and dimensions.
How is the wave of utter randomness going to be unleashed? By stealing the Shared Light, breaking the Light and shining it on a captured Dragon.
Conflict Scene - new location, the same or new threat is attacking Sige
Location - padlock icon, The Abandoned Mine north of Torlynn
New Threat - Campfire icon, an adventuring party looking for adventure
2 Questions for the Confrontation Scene
Who is the adventuring party? They are members of the Black Flamme.
Where is the goblin at? The goblin is conversing with the Black Flamme troupe, they are the known as the Darkened Glass.
Preamble -
I knew that Barious was being less than honest with me, but Barious was able to cajole me into helping him track the goblin to the Abandoned Mines north of Torlynn (Barious knows the Gray Patch’s reputation, which is to maintain peace in the hills and plied me with this information.) At my core even though I knew that something didn’t seem right, the man still had been stolen from and it was my responsibility to help track down the suspect.
Barious was chatty during the ride, but he didn’t let much else slip to me, he was definitely on guard about what he was saying to me now.
I have been in the Abandoned Mine and there ain’t much there but mold and the occasional Orge. Arriving at the entrance it was easy for me to track the goblin to a large cave. Barious is like a lumbering oxen, bumbling through the mine passageways, but once we found the goblin, and a group of men, I wasn’t surprised they hadn’t heard us. I couldn’t quite make out what they were saying, so I stepped from the shadows and introduced myself….
4 Actions for the Confrontation Scene
1. I want to demand the goblin be turned over to me by exerting my Gray Patch authority?
Reaction - red card, hadn’t seen that face and a BUT
I stepped from the darkness and told the men and goblin, who I was. The men immediately reacted by turning and unsheathing their weapons, but as the did this Barious, who had readied a crossbow, sent a quarrel towards them. It erupted from the lead man’s chest. This as expect caused the rest of them to charge us, unfortunately one of the men in back looked like a spell caster.
2. I want to stop the spellcaster in back from casting by using my lasso to grabbed him around the neck.
Reaction - green card, surprise and BUT
I whip my lasso off my belt and give it a couple of goods spins before tossing it at the mage in the back, but as it flies through the air the mage moves, it catches him around the left wrist. I yank hard and it dumps the hapless fellow to the ground, pretty sure it yanked the arm out of socket. The mage starts screaming and writhing on the floor. Whilst doing this the remaining 2 members of the Darkened Glass engage me.
3. I want to kill the 2 remaining members of the Darkened Glass using my short
sword.
Reaction - green card, smiling face
Yanking my short sword free of its scabbard, I just manage to deflect a blow aimed at my head. As I follow through I stab one of the men in the throat. The second man fumbles over his companion and as he flails into me I grab him by the head and ram my sword into his belly. I glance over to where the goblin had been and noticed that he is slinking out of the cavern. I walk over to the mage writhing on the ground. I slam my sword into his chest and turn to go after the goblin….
4. I want to catch the goblin by running him down
Reaction - green card, nervous face and a BUT
I manage to catch up to the goblin. The goblin doesn’t put up much of a fight, but he does start blabbering about the Astral Path, the Crooked, the Flightless Arrow (which peaks my interest) and the end of the Rift. I start questioning the little git about this when I feel a sharp rap to my head. The world goes dim and blurry. The last thing I remember is being pushed to the ground as my world goes dark …….
Revelation Phase - Orchestrating the Evil idea all Along - I am going to pull Barious over as he is a natural choice.
1 Question for the Revelation phase
Why was Barious chasing the key? The Crooked were hoping to start a war with the key that would ravage the Rift allowing the Crooked to seize control of Thunder Rift.
Showdown Scene - a location (possibly the 1st one), 2 Threats attacking the hero
A location - the river bridge
2 Threats - the Black Flamme and the Crooked
The hero arrives in the middle of the conflict.
Preamble -
I work up with the worst headache I have had in years. Barious was nowhere in sight. The goblin, however, had been cut from neck to navel. The key and the pouch were missing. I had bled a lot (head wounds do that), but I was feeling up to the task of at least tracking Barious down. It wasn’t all that hard. Barious made little effort in concealing his tracks. I manage to follow him out of the cave. He was headed back to the bridge from what I could tell. I made my way overland (I know all sorts of shortcuts). Sneaking up on the bridge I see quite the battle going on between 2 groups. I am betting it is the Crooked and likely the Black Flamme. Get in, Get the key, get the hell out and get it too my superiors, that’s the plan at least…….
6 Actions for the Showdown
1. I want to get to Barious and the key by climbing in the river and floating down to the bridge.
Reaction - green card, ecstatic face and AND
I manage to slip into the river, no one notices, they are too busy killing each other. I glide down the river towards the bridge. I see Barious on the bridge holding off what looks like a Orge. I look at him and slung across his chest is the bag holding the key. As I near the bridge I unsling my lasso, give her a good whirl and manage to find a place for her to tie onto. The river is moving fast enough that I use the force to propel me up and over the bridge. I land, on my feet, right next to Barious…..
2. I want to cut the pouch case and grabbed it by using my short sword.
Reaction - red card, angry face and AND
I make a loud squish as I land on the bridge. I didn’t think Barious heard me, but as I make a swipe at the strap of the bag Barious dispatches the Orge in front of him with a might swing of his sword and turns to face me……
3. I want to stab Barious by using my dagger
Reaction - red card, arghh face and AND
I make a thrust at Barious using my dagger. He deftly knocks my blade aside. Making a counter attack he manages to catch me in the side, knocking the wind out of me and cutting me open.
4. I want to grab the bag from Barious by distracting Barious with my lasso.
Reaction - red card, sad face
I whip my rope at Barious, who snatches it out of the air and proceeds to cut it in half, dropping the ends to the ground.
5. I want to hurt Barious by throwing my dagger at him.
Reaction - red card, crying and AND
I toss my dagger at Barious, it was a poor attempt on my part I will admit, Barious’ sword flicks, he strikes my dagger and sends it back towards me. It strikes me in the shoulder and as I fall off the bridge I make one last attempt to grab the bag…..
6. I want to grab the bag and get away
Reaction - green card, hmm face and BUT
I reach out and grab the bag, but as I do it tears open. I see a small cylindrical item fall out. I am able to grab it just as I slip over the edge of the bridge. Hitting the water didn’t really hurt, but I manage to remain conscious as the current whisks me away. Barious orders his men to follow, but they are engaged in a death brawl with members of the Black Flamme, no one but Barious noticed the whole thing as I vanish out of view. A couple of miles downstream I am able to get out of the river, now it’s off to headquarters at a quick clip….

Regarding encounters with monsters or bad guys or other NPCs: do I bring them into the scene when I think it would be interesting but logical? For example, on the way back to the tavern, suddenly, three thugs jump out of the darkness and demand my money!
Other than "roll for wandering monsters", how do I encounter other NPCs and monsters?

In a storygame forum thread about tag spamming and its deleterious effects, someone posted an idea that might be useful with solo games where you're using a system where tag spamming is possible:
Basically, you swap the placement of the middling/neutral result with the best/top result. This way the highest rolls aren't always the best, and I assume it would curb any tendency one may have towards acquiring bonus after bonus.

Actual Play: Our Last Best Hope - The Killer Asteroid - Act 1 - Scene 4 - Taking on the Threat
Actual Play: Our Last Best Hope - The Killer Asteroid - Act 1 - Scene 4 - Taking on the Threat
I think this scene came out well. It was fun, in part because I got to engage more with the crunchy bits, and also got to engage with the parser (which output is the closest thing I've felt to roleplaying with someone, especially when the phrases pretty much demand no interpretation, or something close to that.)
Still using the text parser for dialogue and also now for a "Narrator" who might frame the scene. I'm using the the movie transcript text assigned to MIMIC (the MIMIC 'voice') for the Narrator and NPCs in this scene at least.
I've still had to occasionally dig deeper into the parsed text for phrases that fit the context, especially when the conversations relate to relationships between characters. Chalk that down to the downside of randomness and the contents of the movie transcripts. A well chosen or constructed text to parse might fix this but I'm committed to the texts I assigned.

I played a premade scenario using Mythic. The game system was HeroQuest Glorantha and the scenario is a demo scenario Return to Apple Lane. I want to share this because I like to read actual plays myself. Hopefully someone gets some entertainment from this. If someone would like to publish this as a blog post on their blog I am happy to contribute.

A couple of my favorite random generator sites. I'm mostly interested in the maps, especially the geomorph-based ones, but there's a ton of awesome stuff here.

Turns out I overlooked one rule of the game that says Threats should always equal the number of players. I don't know that it really affects me much, since I've been rolling randomly for what threats to take on.
Turns out I overlooked one rule of the game that says Threats should always equal the number of players. I don't know that it really affects me much, since I've been rolling randomly for what threats to take on.
As for whether I'll go beyond this last upcoming Threat before moving on to Act 2, I'm not sure yet. I can say that spotlight scenes keep my interest afloat as I dig into the personalities of the characters (with the help of the text parser for Hema and Catherine).
Speaking of the parser, for this session, I had to dig a bit deep into the generated content at times to find something that fit the context. It wasn't too bad, though, and the phrases that made sense in context still surprised me.
Interestingly, it took me more time for me to think about what I wanted to say as Brett, which requires no parser. Had this been a social game, I wouldn't have had the privilege to think about it so much. Yay for solo gaming.
Let's see how it goes when I take on the Threat next session.
p.s. I don't have a precise visualization of the character's environment. It's just vaguely the inside of a spaceship, though it feels somewhat big. Big enough that these two were able to have a short conversation with pregnant pauses and everything on the way to see Catherine. I'm pretty sure that if I really thought about it, it'd be ridiculous...but i"M not going to think about it.

Lovecraft’s mythos always produces interesting stories, so I decided to make my next Untold game part of this world.

Lovecraft’s mythos always produces interesting stories, so I decided to make my next Untold game part of this world.
Location: Euclidipus hospital.
Threat: a “Blob” pursuing someone.
Hero: Johnathan Grey, patient of the daily ward of psychiatric wing of the hospital due to his believe in magic. Johnathan has knowledge of the mythos and a spell book from some other reality.
Danger
“The Blob” pursues a baby recently born in the hospital. It is a girl named Maria Rack, from mother Eleonore, father unknown. Baby exists both in this reality and in some other dimension, and Blob wants to use it to open a portal between worlds. The only thing stopping Blob from accessing a baby is Johnathan’s spell book.
So, in order to save the baby, Johnathan puts the book in the mother’s luggage. Then, our hero tries to sneak into the hospital archive in order to find baby’s home address, but he is in for surprise. Hospital archive is a room that seems to go for kilometers – it might even be endless. Using his mythos knowledge, Johnathan tries to find the data he needs, only to discover that several woman named Eleonore Rack give birth to daughter named Maria at the same time. All these women live at the different parts of the city, even in different towns and countries. Being unable to get any conclusion from his findings, Johnathan returned to his room.
Intrigue
Johnathan is now sure that Euclidipus hospital is just a secret base of the Blob and his cultists. Blob uses his cultists masked as emergency medical crews to operate in the city. Once the book left the hospital in Eleonore’s suitcase, Blob will infect hospital patients with its essence and in that way travel to try to reach the baby.
Confrontation
In the hospital, doctors are looking for Johnathan. He uses the oldest trick in the book and escapes through laundry elevator. Out of the hospital Johnathan enters the phone booth and uses address book found there to look for the Rack family. There seems to be one Eleonore Rack living nearby so he goes there. He is careful to avoid any sign of medical emergency crews, but there are none of them. Actually, the whole neighborhood seems deserted.
Johnathan sneaks into the house where baby should be, only to find out that interior of the house is really an exterior located on some strange world…
Revelation
Obeying this evil person all along – the baby is pulling strings! She is really this world reincarnation of old goddess Mariarack. She opened the portal but she is unable to bring anything from portal into our world without the Blob essence.
Showdown
In front of the portal, mother holds a baby. Baby looks very week, somehow sick. Eleonore accuses Johnathan that he is trying to kill her baby girl by planting a book into her luggage.
Johnathan tries to persuade Eleonore to give him back a book, but she gets mad and turns into monster. She than tears the book in such a way that pages fly all over. Johnathan grabs pages flying by him and starts to read spells. One attacking spell hits monster and it grins with pain. Then, Johnathan casts protective force field around him, making monster mad since it can’t hurt a mortal standing before it. Using the feelings of the monster, Johnathan draws it as far away from the baby as possible, then runs, grabs a baby and throws it through portal.
The portal starts closing, and all returns to normal. Johnathan stands inside the house now, and what was a monster is again a woman. With a satisfied smile, Eleonore steps through the portal that completely closes behind her.
Johnathan is left standing amongst the torn pages of his book, wandering if he just saved the world or doomed it.

I have a party of five for my solo excursion, the practice adventure in Dungeonpunk. I am less inclined to give them classes as to just give them personalities and see what role emerges.

I still don't know what five descriptive traits to give them.
Here are portraits I found on the internet which I have cast as my characters.
First is Angra, a tattooist and machinist who can handle herself in a fight. Enlisted to prove to her town that she is a total badass. Has romantic feelings for Zolan. Likes to dance. Carries a long sword and six throwing knives.
Artistic, Mechanically Inclined, Combat Ready... Not sure what else.
Then is a clockwork man named Tobb. Tobb was purchased by Zolan for this mission and was instructed to practice combat. He's only had a week to practice and that's been alone in the woods behind Zolan's house so he wants to try it against real opponents. His chassis is thin iron, which makes him durable.
He's stronger than most humans but not as fast. He can function underwater but cannot swim. Also he is vulnerable to rust if neglected.
He carries a solid steel Axe.
Strong, Durable, Indefatigable, Immune to illusion and Mind affecting magic, Fearless
Harell is a Pugman. He stands about three feet tall. Like his kind, he is excitable and playful and very social.
He never wants to sleep alone. He dual wields short swords. He can track by smell. Even armored, he is the fastest in the party. He is loyal to Ena.
Tracker, Fast, combat trained... I don't know what else.
I'll leave room for abilities to announce themselves during play.
Zolan is a hedge wizard. He does maintenance for his city. Odd jobs like clearing pipes and mending bad electrical connections. He wants to move into biomancy but you need a lot of equipment. Big glass vats and a huge laboratory. He can send a rush of force for one point or a lightning blast for two. He also carries a cane which he can charge with electricity at will.
Inventor, Wizard, Persuasion,
Ena is a wizard too. Born with the green mark, her clan urged her to use her power to help people. Her magic is nature themed. Moss, grass, vines, wood.
She carries two throwing axes which she has mastered and is an acrobat. Always climbing on stuff. Nimble.
Wizard, combat ready, acrobat, nimble, animal affinity
There. Will begin a session later today.

My quest is to guard a sarcophagus from a fanatic priest.
My quest is to guard a sarcophagus from a fanatic priest.
Is the sarcophagus in the dungeon?* (likely)
Yes
Well, now I know what that landmark on the second floor is. I'll have to work that in.
The priest must be a cultist, then.
Am I already in the dungeon? (Even)
Yes
Ah, crap. I've kinda painted myself into a corner, here;I don't have my maps handy. Well, I figure I'm on the second floor, and I don't think the sarcophagus is in the first 20 rooms, so which room am I in? (D20)
18
Okay, I can look that up later. Then I'll have my bearings.
What about that sarcophagus. I'm thinking maybe a legendary lizardman hero, yeah? (Likely)
No
Ooh! Is it even known whom lies in it? (Even)
No
The mystery! The cultist, then; what was their name?
Zooma
... Okay. I'll take it. What is Zooma's goal in getting to the tomb?
Trap Daemon
Oh! Well, now I have a choice! I suppose I could ally myself with Zooma, and simply let her trap this daemon.
Is the daemon in the dungeon? (Even)
No
What about Zooma? (Even)
No
Then I should keep Zooma away from entering the dungeon, for now. I don't yet know the consequences of her actions. Giving a daemon a physical body doesn't seem like that great of an idea.
I could alert the lizardmen, have them at guard. Um. Do they even know I'm here? (Even)
Yes!
Oh! Uh... and they invited me here! Right. I knew that. Of course. What reward are they offering me, for this?
Loyal henchmen, Atropos
Oh, my own Lizardman sidekick! Nice!
Um. I'll have to stop there. I'll get back to this.
Feel free to contribute, if you want to jump in!

In the next of my RPG character creation/solo play set of articles I've started Scarlet Heroes, a retroclone designed to allow a single character to face the usual old-school style of adventure without reducing the number of enemies and so on.

I've made a Cleric and she's currently investigating the disappearance of a friend of a friend.
The adventure is being run using just the tables from the Scarlet Heroes book, and the goal is to give the three adventure systems - Urban, Dungeon, and Wilderness, a work out.
