Has anyone done any soloing with The One Ring RPG? If so, could you share what tools (GME, etc.) you used? Thanks for the help!

The solo sandbox

The solo sandbox

I really like to try an old school D&D sandbox. As solo system I probably go with Scarlet Heroes or Whitehack with Scarlet Heroes adaptions for solo play.

I'd like to use Yoon-Suin as a setting.
Per default, it's assumed that you create the sandbox beforehand with many random tables.
However, this defeats the purpose of exploration (and the sense of wonder which I try to maintain as a player).

Any tips on how to create a meaningful sandbox which still is capably of surprising you as a player?

So I ran a successful solo session of "generic monster-of-the-week hunter" with Mini Six. It went great & was a lot of fun, & I'll probably get back to it at some point.

HOWEVER, I'm having the itch right now to play some "Star Trek" (either FASA or Far Trek most likely). My only concern is the nature of a Trek themed game: the ensemble cast. In the past the longest running & most successful RPG campaign that I ever played in was FASA Trek, adapted to Next Gen. Just myself & one player, we divided up the crew in 1/2 & took turns GM'ing for each other, running our PC's as NPC's as needed.

BUT FOR SOLO, I find the idea of running a whole crew a bit daunting. The Classic model of one main character (Kirk), a supporting character or two (Spock, McCoy) & the rest as "minor" characters (NPC's) would probably be a better fit, but I dunno... :\

My original intention was to run ONE character & ALL the rest of the crew as NPC's, but I have mixed feelings.

Anyone done an "ensemble cast" type game/campaign solo? Manage a whole cast of characters? Run one PC w/ a whole cast of recurring NPC's?

Just curious as to others experiences. :)

Finding really good use for Bananagram tiles. (Also the banana makes for a dead-sexy dice bag.)

I just got my copy of Mage 20th Anniversary edition. I'd backed it mostly because some friends I trust have told me it's an awesome setting. I'm largely unfamiliar with it or the White Wolf games in general.

I wonder if anybody's ever done anything with these solo? Is it different from the more action-oriented games like D&D, Traveller, etc? I am curious how well the system would work. Any first hand experiences?
Here's your chance to be immortalized... Submit a chieftain and be credited on the component card at publish time. NO ART WORK REQUIRED. Just a stat block.  Its for a solo/coop D&D game that Im working on.

I need something to build customizable cards. I saw a blog mention inDesign but that seems to be something you have to buy. id like to do nicely graphic cards with nice fonts. not just black and white stick figures. Ideas?

Here's a blog post about solo role-playing. It will be nothing new for you seasoned folks but I hope I can inspire some of my not-solo-rpg-readers. Plus, mention of some bloggers from here so perhaps that'll grow your audience.

So a while back, I sat down and played a Dungeons and Dragon board game with some friends. It was... mostly fun, but what I really took away from it was the simple AI built into the game's monsters.

Jump to last night, when I was knocking together materials for a FASERIP solo game. I got to thinking about how nice the ranks in that game are for describing things, and lamenting the fact that I am lazy and don't want to roll up a whole mess of NPCs right now. That got me to thinking. We have some wonderful resources in the community, but would people be interested in a sort of shared character library?

I picture things like attributes described in terms (al a FASERIP), and some simple AI built in. Something an individual could grab and drop into their world, know roughly how the character would react, and away they'd go.

An example:

John the Fighty Man

Strength  Decent
Agility      Average
Fortitude Great
Reason    Bad
Intuition  Average
Charisma Average

Special Powers / Traits
Three time winner of the "Eat a stone's weight in cheese." competition.

Behavior:

When intimidated this character reacts: Hostilely
Personality-wise, this character is: Jovial, if unhelpful.
When in combat, this character:
1.) Attacks aggressively
2.) Retreats at 1/4 health
Commonly found at: Ale houses, brothels, puppet shows.

Thoughts?

I'm just making my first forays into Solo-RPGs at the moment, and hope to share some experiences soon. At the moment I'm also thinking through some theoretical questions, given what I've read in the last few days.

Q: Solo-RPGery as discussed in what I've seen so far seems to be based on the premise of GM-emulation. Are there any instances of platforms/resources/etc. for PC-emulation, during which session a human is the GM and the emulators are the "players"?

I was able to generate a shed-load of numbers for d1000, d100 & d10 and copy/paste them into OneNote, from where I was able to print them for when I didn't have dice or a dice app handy.

A small tip, but it beats writing out your own!

Random dungeons with Story Cubes

It struck me the other day: all these Story Cubes I have and never use should work wonders for die-drop maps. The dungeon below was built in about 30 minutes. I did four drops with a handful dice, and didn't really stick to a procedure. My idea was to draw the map, then add occupants, then work on the story, but the evocative power of the images made my tired brain mix it up a little.
The notes on the map aren't ready to run, but I reckon it'd only take an hour or so to finalise it all. So yay for Story Cubes!

Question for the group:

Question for the group:

The Chaosium Cthulhu Adventure Alone Against the Flames could be played though in a couple of hours (with dramatic flare).  For you own personal Solo RPG games, Are you looking for something that plays in or around that time, shorter or longer?  Explanations and examples are welcome.

I have downloaded Lady Blackbird by John Harper.

I have used a photograph of the American BB-35 Texas battleship to create my own version of the imperial Hand of Sorrow starship. I printed the photograph
https://www.withfriendship.com/images/h/39732/uss-texas-bb35-page-1.jpg
and I did all the rest with paper, scissors, colors and brushes. It takes a lot more time than Gimp, but it's fun :)
The cool thing about BB-35 is that you get very detailed maps of the whole battleship / starship!

Of course, nothing of this is necessary to play Lady Blackbird, which looks very cool and simple.

A tiny solo game I wrote. Hopefully of some interest here :-)

The short format gave me the courage to put together my first game and I learned so much by doing it!
