The last session of my vacation dungeon crawl posted from vacation. Tomorrow I fly back home and on monday it's back to work. I will probably continue this game, I like the character and I am almost level 3. However, back home I got some other games in the works as well. My travel kit is a must have on trips and I will upgrade it by getting one of those all-rolled up gaming rolls.

Pits and Perils Solo - Session 3.

Pits and Perils Solo - Session 3.

Posted session 3 of my Wizard-Thief pits and perils solo game. The party has pursued the kidnappers to the tower Stonereach and now must breach the tower to rescue Georgia. A fair amount of fighting in this one, but quite a bit of narrative, too (I don't like too much fighting in these and am working on how to shorten it up).

Hey everyone, I'm new here, and I'd like to invite you to take a look at my first actual play.

Hey everyone, I'm new here, and I'd like to invite you to take a look at my first actual play.

It's a game inspired by the setting of James Cameron's Avatar but with dinosaurs and ice age-type neanderthals/village people (maybe a bit more advanced). I think. The game's kind of taken a life of its own.

I'm using Fate Accelerated (although I used Fate Core for game creation) for the ruleset and the Mythic GME and have just posted my first session.

I did do a session 0 too, if you're interested in seeing the game creation part of the actual play: http://firstfox2.blogspot.com/2018/06/solo-ap-fate-accelerated-ice-age.html

If you do pay my brand new blog a visit, please let me know what you think.

Thanks!

Out of curiousity: How many German or German speaking solo roleplayers are in this community? I am asking because from my perception the solo rpg hobby has gained momentum in recent years but from my google searches I got the impression that it is not very widespread in Germany. All the works and rules are in English and I haven't found any actual plays or how-to guides in German.

So I am actually thinking about writing a how-to series myself in German to promote the hobby some more.

Not sure how to cross post, but I just posted this on the Ironsworn Google+ community but since it's solo play, wanted people here to check out Ironsworn as well. I think you'll like the system!

Holy cow! So thankful that this game (Ironsworn) came up in Reddit! I have been "playing" solo the last couple of nights, and all I've accomplished has been to get through writing out and modifying the Truths worksheet and writing out my backstory, but it's been a blast!

I'm trying to write like an actual story so that each vow and asset are represented, and I'm happy with how it's turning out thus far. Looking forward to actually rolling some dice soon and test-driving the mechanics! Hopefully I'll have an actual play and a review up soon as well.

You can read about it on my blog here:

This series from Alea Iactanda Est is a few years old now, but man does it make me want to play some Dark Eye. I'm "eyeing" the hardcover 5th on Amazon now. Does anyone else have any experience playing this game (either solo or with a group)?

I've read that it's fairly "crunchy", but the rules as presented by AIE actually make it sound like it's got a fairly unified, intuitive mechanic--certainly moreso than systems with hit locations and elaborate combat maneuvers coughMythrascough.

I did some solo playtesting for SHATTER6.

I did some solo playtesting for SHATTER6.

Character: Vlad Teppish, a 500 year old Necrocrat Nightstalker.

Vlad was spending an evening doing what he enjoyed best - watching a theater performance. It was a production of the 1001 Nights, one of his favourites (he'd seen it more than 1000 times). Suddenly there was screaming from outside. Mostly annoyed with the interruption, Vlad walked outside to see a lot of people crying and pointing at the sky. A flaming ball was hurtling towards the city. Upon closer inspection, it wasn't a ball at all but a huge green man.

CRASH. The man hit the ground, killing dozens of bystanders. Vlad recognised him as Yardash, God of the Wild, though why he was he he had no idea. Vlad ran over to him and questioned his coming. Yardash was silent, but suddenly brought his giant sword down, slicing a house in half. Vlad drew his rapier and attempted to turn it into an undead snake, but something caused the spell to fizzle out. The god brought his sword down once again, but this time on Vlad, sundering the ground in hot flame. Vlad flew into a wall, badly injured (in game terms, all his attributes had just been set to 0). He summoned all of his powers to raise ten corpses from the dead and led then against the god (in game terms, he used 3 of his 4 shatterdice to ensure the challenge was met). They crawled over him, gnashing and gnawing. Seeing an opportunity, Vlad ran up a wall, spun in the air and decapitated Yardash (using his final shatterdie), landing in a cloud of dust.

He had killed a god and it wasn't even suppertime.

Solo dungeon crawl game for a 6-year old (not in school yet):

Solo dungeon crawl game for a 6-year old (not in school yet):
My daughter takes great interest in my fantasy and solo rpg games. She likes to watch and roll dice for me so I figured I create an own game for her that she can play by herself. Since she just starts school in August she cant read yet but she does fine with numbers, so it had to be visual. I made a pocketmod and the title page is the main exploration table. The goal is to go through a dungeon with six rooms, randomly determining what is in every room (monsters, treasure, trap, healing potion or a combination). You start every dungeon with six health. Potions give two health, treasure is d6 coins, traps deal 1 damage which can be avoided by rolling 5+ on d6 (the game uses only d6). Monsters have 2 to 4 health. You fight them by rolling d6: 1-3 the monster hits you and you cross off one health. 4+ you hit the monster and cross off one health from the monster. To keep track green dots are monsters, brown dots are treasure, blue dots are potions and arrows are traps. Once a room is clear you check it off and go to the next room. She had a blast and plowed through two dungeons...

Session 3 of my dungeon crawl. I got a little loot and XP wise I am almost level 2. However I desperately need potions to stay underground longer.

Trait-based Action/Behavior Resolution

Trait-based Action/Behavior Resolution
(Inspired by Pendragon RPG trait system)

Perhaps this might help guide some NPC interaction in your solo play.

I originally used this to help determine alignment-based actions by NPCs using B/X D&D. It should work well using any trait that has negative and positive extremes. (Lawful, Honest, Brave, Loyal, etc.)

Assign a trait value of three (most negative) to eighteen (most positive) or roll 3d6.

When it is unclear how the character will act based on the trait, roll a d6 and apply the trait value's modifier.

A result of three or lower indicates negative action, a result of four or higher indicates positive action.

Characters with trait values of three or eighteen will always act negatively or positively to some degree unless there is unnatural influence.(Fanatics!)

TRAIT VALUE • MODIFIER
3 • - 3
4 - 5 • - 2
6 - 8 • - 1
9 - 12 • 0
13 - 15 • + 1
16 - 17 • + 2
18 • + 3

Adjudicate the magnitude of the action or base it on the roll result, such as:

Less than 0 • extreme negative action
0 - 2 • negative action suitable to circumstances
3 • minimal negative action
4 • minimal positive action
5 - 7 • positive action suitable to circumstances
8+ • extreme positive action

Cheers!

Two new posts in two days! Yikes! Must be summer.

I was encouraged to make a tutorial on creating world maps for campaigns and such by a friend. I'm not an artist, but I wanted to show everybody out there that you can slap together a map that will only be laughed at a little within an hour or two. I found this useful especially for the idea of solo hex-crawl world.

Again, I'm not a pro, but hopefully this can help you make your solo play world and game better while giving a bit of hope that us little guys can still do something almost as cool as an apprentice training to be the helper of a professional paint brush cleaner for the true cartographers!

Hey, everyone, not only do I have a new "episode" up. I have two episodes of "Fallout 5e: Midwest" up! Just hit the search key to jump down to: The group decides they’ll take a rest after helping the out Doc Willis.

In episodes two and three the midwest party will be helping Doc Willis for a medical supply retrieval. Then helping the Copper brothers (will one, actually haha) retrieval a robot repair kit from a old RobCo facility.

I am having a great time writing these up! Hope you all enjoy!

This one has been making waves for a while, but I've only now noticed it says 1-4 players. Any of you have experience with it from a solo perspective? I don't play boardgames much, though I have an interest (especially as my kids get older). I do have the Ravenloft D&D game since it was a no-brainer with solo rules and tons of minis included, and this one seems like an equal or greater value at this price point?

I've been playing around with using Genesys/Star Wars dice for an answer oracle and this is what I've come up with so far.

I've been playing around with using Genesys/Star Wars dice for an answer oracle and this is what I've come up with so far.

Base oracle is one Proficiency and one Setback die rolled together (dub this as "PS").Reading "success" as Yes and "failure" as No gives an overall 50-50 split of results. Things get unbalanced interpreting the breakdown of the outcomes.
Count and cancel dice results as normal.

read results as:

Success = Yes.
Failure = No.
Advantage = and... (for a "Yes" result); but... (for a "No" result)
Threat = but... (for a "Yes" result); and... (for a "No" result)
Triumph = Random Event, Unexpectedly (CRGE), or Twist (I've dubbed this as RUT)

% Breakdown:
Yes, and... = 8.3%
Yes. = 27.8% (2.8% RUT)
Yes, but... = 13.9% (2.8% RUT)
No, but... = 30.5%
No. = 16.7% (2.8% RUT)
No, and... = 2.8%

Use for 50-50 or unknown odds.

Adding an additional Setback die ("PSS") gives overall results of Yes = 37% and No = 63%. (Unlikely ?)
Adding a Boost die to the base pair ("PSB") gives overall results of Yes = 63% and No = 37%. (Likely ?)

Once again, the breakdown is a bit messy. ( I'll post them if interested).

RUT is constant at 8.33% throughout.

Going much further is madness. (without a program to calculate results, which is beyond me, I think)

If any of you folks have stayed with me this far ( and I didn't confuse the heck out of you!), maybe you might want to take it for a spin around the block sometime?

EDIT: Optional Altered and Interrupt Scenes (see Mythic GME for details)

At the start of each new scene, roll the Proficiency die and a d6 (or what you have at hand).
If Triumph is rolled, the scene is altered or interrupted.
Triumph and odd d6 result = altered scene.
Triumph and even d6 result = interrupted scene.

Cheers!

Just played a short quick session on the porch to get in the mood. Only explored one room, killed two dire rats and overcame a trap. However I now need to force open two doors, one of them trapped, which I am unaware of. Tomorrow I need to get an improvised dice cup. A paper coffee cup will do. I hate rolling dice without a dice cup. I rolled them all over the place...
