It looks interesting. I was always interested in doing a PDQ game, but the versions before didn't fit what I was looking for (i.e. lack of gritty rules).

How do you go about creating npc's and enemies for solo play? This is the first real roadblock for me, do I need to fully stat out every enemy and npc for every encounter? Also, how do you guys go about dungeon crawling solo? Are there any dungeon crawling programs I can use? I'm using GURPS btw.

Longer than I wanted, but it had to include some details that would be important for later.

More prosey Cthulhu Dark horror. Mills finds himself looking into what happened to his fiancee's sub, instead of going directly to work piloting his undersea ROVs. Can two NPCs talking be interesting to one PC? Well, in the case of solo play, yeah that's actually alright. Or allowed.

A few years ago, inspired by the games of my youth, I created a fast-playing fantasy adventure game using an ordinary deck of playing cards. That game, Dungeon Solitaire: Tomb of Four Kings is still available for free on my website. It wasn't long before I teamed up with artist Josephe Vandel to create an expanded tarot version of the game called Labyrinth of Souls. And that game has since inspired a series of novels published by ShadowSpinners Press!

I always had in mind the possibility of creating an expansion for Labyrinth of Souls, with new rules and a new deck of cards. And as this project developed, I saw the opportunity to create a new stand-alone Dungeon Solitaire game called Devil's Playground. along the way, I was inspired to design a whole new game called Dungeon War, a two-player wargame with it's roots in the Dungeon Solitaire cards and world. Finally, the new cards have a system of symbolic interpretation similar to what one finds in the tarot.

The Devil's Playground has ultimately become a collected treasure hoard of new and expanded games. You can delve into the deepest corner of the darkest dungeon with the Devil's Playground game, or use the cards and rulebook to expand your Labyrinth of Souls games, experiencing new challenges and unexpected surprises with every delve. You can face off with opponents in a fast, easy to learn wargame that evokes an epic scale, or create spreads for reading and interpretation.

Once again, I want to thank Josephe Vandel for this wonderful collaboration, and for creating all the incredible artwork for the game. The images are off-the-chart imaginative, lending a visual and symbolic depth that is perfectly matched to my thematic ideas.

And thanks to all our backers so far! The Kickstarter for Dungeon Solitaire: Devil's Playground is on going through Feb. 28th. Check it out, and support the creation of this new Dungeon Solitaire game!

I will post the Daring Points rule tomorrow to complement this reading.

She walks through her toolbox (based on a truly ancient RPG) and play process, which is certainly useful for those stuck on the question "how do I start a solo RPG?"

Her RPG system seems to be more about hex/dungeon crawling, not original narratives (which many of you prefer).

Hi all, I have some questions about play reports you enjoy reading.

Hi all, I have some questions about play reports you enjoy reading.

Firstly, detail: how much detail do you like in a play report? Do you want to know every dice roll and oracle suggestion? How much summarisation is best for you? Do you like dialogue?

Secondly, length: do you prefer play reports that are entirely self-contained, or do you prefer to read an ongoing series? How often would you like to read parts in an ongoing series (e.g. once per week or twice per week)?

Thirdly, content: what aspect of solo RPGs do you enjoy reading most about? Is it the rules system, the solo RPG techniques, the story or something else?

Any examples would be appreciated.

Thanks for your time!

After purchasing Four Against Darkness and printing out the included pocketmods I became an instant pocketmod fan (I didn't bother much with them before) so I made a pocketmod for solo fantasy gaming which gives you all the essentials in a system agnostic package. The quests are very simplistic and mimic those famous sidequests in computer rpgs. They are there to give you some simple hooks to go on a hex crawl. Feel free to edit as you see fit.

Hello!

Hello!

As always, I somehow never find time to play, so things are progressing rather slowly.

Thus, I have decided to already upload my session report of the initial cut scene of my current #Libre #Solo #Roleplaying session (my first try at it). Despite being a first attempt, I am already bending things a bit as the mission is not handed down as an explicit mission, but rather as a need the PC wants to deal with out of her own free will.

Comments and hints are always welcome, of course.

Yours,

Hi all, I've been lurking around this great community for a while and was hoping to get some input. I'm in the mood for some Hyborian Age adventure. Antagonizing the Zamoran underworld, fighting giant snakes, running afoul of the odd sorcerer or priest of Set. You know, the usual.

I've done a solo Barbarians of Lemuria and it was fun but not quite fiddly enough. I think Fate hits that for me; I really like the idea of creating advantages. But I love the BoL careers.

I know Jadepunk does professions--the same six for everyone--and Hunters of Alexandria has a larger list with 7 points to put into what you want. I'll probably hew pretty close to the latter, but I'm wondering if anything breaks were I to do kind of a free form profession list.

I figure since it's only me playing, I put the ones I want on my characters and don't worry about the rest. The HoA list is pretty workable--I might reskin one or two--but some PCs and NPCs might need something not on that list.

Do you guys think that's generally doable? Thanks!

Poor Valtyr. He just can't catch a break. I'm having a better experience with Libre than Mythic or Covetous Poet's. I might change the location rolls into Story Cubes, especially since the Civilized vs Wilderness divide didn't cover the subject matter I was looking toward. All in all, I wouldn't change the oracle all that much.

I've been looking for a solo Rpg for a while and came across Scott Malthouse's Quill. I feel like it was an rpg that was made for me. In this scenario I played as Brother Gabriel, a monk who had to write to Archduke Godfrey informing him that his sister died. He was not overly impressed with my letter.

The "Prologue" for my next Solo game. Just trying to establish a bit of the character of Terry, his relationship with his sire, and what they hell he's gotten himself mixed up in.
Sorry for not responding after asking for a recommendation. I ended up settling on "Chronicles of Arax". Played through the included quest with the included hero and had a blast. I managed to get through the entire quest in a single two and half hour session. Didn't write down any narration while playing, so I'm having to do that after the fact in the write-up I'm doing for it. Speaking of which, that's what has been taking me so long to respond. While I'm enjoying adding the narration(having all the gameplay written down really helps), my gosh is it time-consuming. About five hours into this beast and I only have about half of it transcribed/narration added. Don't know how much longer it will take me to finish this write up, but I hope it's soon.

I streamlined my basic GM Emulator for Maptool this week. I repackaged it as a Library Token, which just means that you can drop it into any Maptool campaign and use the functions from the Selected Token window. It's annoying to have to import multiple things to get it to work, so i replaced the various random tables with JSON list macros. If you want to change any of the lists for the Open Question answers or the Quick and Dirty NPC features, just change the list items in the appropriate list.

The Ruined Kingdom is a sandbox campaign that's compatible with The Black Hack, Whitebox and most other OSR systems. It even incluedes rules for solo play. THis campaign is set in the world of Kaigaku and sees the PCs leave the kingdom of samurai to journey through the wild steppes, the burning desert and to the plains of the ruined kingdom of Tian. Can they stop that empire's monster infestation from spreading to the rest of the world?

This book includes two new classes and nine ne ryu. Play as a swift, deadly Hashishin, a tough Kherin rider, a disciplined Tianjin warrior and many more. There are dozens of monsters, each with full stats, unique abilities and rare "variant" versions for an additional challenge. This book also includes a full dungeon (with gorgeous art by master map-maker Guillaume Tavernier) and and a random dungeon generator. There rae many seeds for expanding the story far beyond the scope of the campaign so you can enjoy years of play.

The PDF remains priced at 2.50.

Not sure if anyone else has been watching the growth and development of Unbroken, but I found this today on the Board Game Geek forum for the game.

Unbroken started as a Print & Play game, for me at least, to help iron out the kinks in the game play by Altema Games / Artem Safarov. I found the game design and artwork were well done, and personally could only offer small critiques to the game. It later went into the BGG Solo Player Contest in which it placed very well coming in 9th in the Best Overall Games. It also placed in four other categories, with the best being 3rd place in Original Artwork.

I know this is a bit of an advertisement for the game, and I take no shame in that as I have enjoyed playing the game and would like to see the Kickstarter successful.

edit: It would have been nice if I put the BGG forum link in here as well...

Currently, I'm working at a job that gives me quite a bit of downtime during my shift, depending on the day. So I was hoping if there were any recommendations for a system with quick character creation, small character sheet, and simple to play. Just need something to help pass the time.

If I've inspired any of you to give Maptool a try, that is awesome. I finally decided to make a macro for the most basic necessity in my soloist tool kit: Mythic GM. If you are interested in trying it out, download it here and import the macro and both tables into your campaign:

If it works properly (no promises), then you should be able to click the macro and enter your question into the pop-up. If it's a yes, no question just choose the odds from the drop down menu. If it's an open question you would direct at the Meaning/Subject tables, check the Open Question box and ignore the drop down list.

Still improving and playing my Frostgrave campaign in Maptool. Today I finished what I am certain is only the 1st version of my Opponent AI. Using Macros and the Input function, I was able to come up with a very simple decision tree.

Each enemy unit is placed under one of three categories:

Active- The Unit has LOS on an Enemy.
Support- The Unit has LOS on an Active Ally.
Passive- The Unit does not have LOS on an Enemy or Active Ally.

Each of these categories has a few triggers. Depending on how many are tripped determines the basic actions that unit will take, and I'm left to make the most of it on their behalf.

I've looked at Decision Trees for opposition in wargames before, but they always seemed to slow down the flow of play too much. This method, I simply check the appropriate boxes and the instructions are output in the chat window. It takes about 5-10 seconds each. I may try to get a bit more specific, but for now just having some input that is less biased has added a lot to the game.

I also spent some time this week upgrading my minis. Before I was just using static token art. Using the ImageTable option for tokens, I have legitimate 16bit Sprites that can rotate in pseudo 3D space, ala Zelda.

All in all, a good gaming week.

A dungeon crawl played using the Four Against the Abyss supplement (advanced rules for Four Against Darkness). I'm using the campaign guidelines in the supplement to add more depth to the game.

I'm getting started into Solo-Roleplaying, so after creating a set of characters, I decided to create a world map for them to explore.

I first drew it on paper following WASD20 map making tutorials on YouTube. Then, I drew a second version of my original map. I was happy with the overall look of it, so I decided to polish it using Photoshop. I used Joel Pigou's amazing fantasy cartography brushes (https://gumroad.com/joelpigou -> he has a 400 set, which is paid, and a free set with about 80 brushes).

Feel free to incorporate it into your games! The finished map is around 12MB.

I'm looking for some random tables. Which focus more on giving an idea than going into specifics.

I've found some tables for loot where the categories went more into what type (furniture, industrial etc), size and number of parts it could be broken into than "9mm pistol +2".
I'm looking for all kinds of generators, creature, character, settlement, other areas etc.
Theme is less important since I think things can be moved around a bit. I just want some kind of base which to get ideas from/modify.

Four Against the World of Darkness - a solo RPG mash up

Alright, so I've written up my first real and complete foray into solo RPG'ing. After thinking about where to host it - G+, tumblr, wordpress, etc - I've decided that the Solo Roleplaying Guild on boardgamegeek.com is good home.

2018 is off to a good start for solo RPG'ing.

So I'm new to tabletop gaming. My experience with gaming is limited to Jrpgs/Crpgs/Arpgs On pc and console. I've been gaming all my life and I've recently become interested with pen & paper gaming through a few classmates with D&D. Unfortunately, I'm a college student looking for employment, so I don't have much time to game. That's when I got curious about solitaire gaming. I did some research and it lead me to a GME called mythic. I purchased and read it in a night, the next day I picked an rpg rule set that interested me that I wanted to use mythic with, GURPS in this case, and started brainstorming a setting to play in. The more I wrote down and added to this fictional world, the more excited I got about running a campaign or short adventure in it. I also started wondering if I could integrate creative writing into this in some way, some way to record the events as they happen and where the narrative takes me, as well as role playing between my Pc's. Are there any tips you guys have for me in general when it comes to solo gaming? More specifically, role playing multiple characters?

Title

Hello guys! With me, something quite peculiar about solo roleplaying has happened, and I would like to know if anyone here passes or went through something similar. The fact is:
Group RPG games have become less and less satisfactory as I build and improve my RPG solo sessions . Not that they are boring; I currently have a group of D & D 5 edition and a group of Vampire that work well ... but in the group adventures I feel that I do not have not even half the immersion in the history, characters and mechanics that I have in my solo sessions ... has anybody here some experience, or advice, or opinion about it?
Thank you!

Scene 13. Yeah, that bodes well for our hero...

Sounds interesting. Says 3-8 players, but based on the description, I'm thinking there's no reason it couldn't be used in a solo context.

Here is a card game that doesn't just have a story to go with the playing. It is a card game that is about creating the story as you play.

Time cubes!

Time cubes!
I've had a hard time getting the hang of tracking time fast and easy so I painted some time cubes.
The light ones represent 12 hours of day and the dark ones 12 hours of night. The 50/50 are 10 minutes each. Every time the 10 minute cubes run out replenish them and remove an hour cube!
