Hi all

Hi all
Finished up my thoughts on the Arax expansion characters.
I'm hoping you'll take a look and let me know your thoughts.

Add any thoughts on character balance in other games too.
I'll be running one of these characters though an adventure or two.

Enjoy your weekend folks :)

More ALONe playtesting, with added flavor of Dixit as random idea generator.

I haven't had a lot of time for solo gaming for quite some time now. But when the final draft of Advanced Song of Blades and Heroes was released to the kickstarter backers, I decided to make them. And I wanted to share the fun I've been having with you guys.

I haven't had a lot of time for solo gaming for quite some time now. But when the final draft of Advanced Song of Blades and Heroes was released to the kickstarter backers, I decided to make them. And I wanted to share the fun I've been having with you guys.

The thing I love about solo wargaming is that I can be a bit selfish. I prefer hex maps because terrain gets bumped around and tape measures can be awkward. I also prefer indulging my creativity behind a mouse and keyboard, not so much with a paint brush.

So for my solo wargaming I've been buying Krosmaster Arena figures. I enjoy their design, and my creative impulses are sated as I create new star card designs to replace those that come with them.

I also picked up a space based wargame that came with a very nice blank hexmap sized at about 1.5" per hex. Under plexiglass this has become my dream wargame set up. I may never play the game it came with (the rule book is a bit of a mess), but I use game pieces the way most people use Legos.

The pictures attached shows my current game in process as the Khaotic Rebels push from the right to claim territory from the Ashland Guardians. I also added a photo of the included card art and the new stat blocks I made for them using the new game rules. My preferred card design app is Microsoft Publisher. If anyone is interested I can pass along the pdf for the cards I've made and the Publisher file with the cards and my template.

I had to leave this game in process, which is another advantage to solo wargaming; If I get busy my opponent is always willing to wait.

Have anyone ever tried Dixit cards as a idea generator for solo RPG?

As the new year really starts for me now, I'm looking forward to my possible 'projects' and the different blogs I have.

Basically should I consolidate my current 3 blogs? Or do others have multiple blogs for different genres and projects?

Disclaimer: Not entirely solo, though GMless -- sorry if this doesn't fit into the Lone Wolf section.

First, Nathan Rockwood 's GameMaster's Apprentice Deck is freaking sweet! Wife and I used it tonight in our HeroQuest: Glorantha game that we're running without a GM and it was incredible! Really streamlined the game and everything was super useful. We used the third Tension method (start @ 1, +1 for every Likely Odds question / reset upon random event) and employed the Sight/Sounds/Feel/Taste, Norse Runes, Elemental Runes, and Verb/Noun/Action sections of the cards. Awesome tool!

Linked below is the session report from tonight. Super fun!

How to play a Published Adventure Solo, without worrying about spoilers, using Mythic Game Master Emulator.

It even gives adventure modules you've already played a new lease of life my making them fresh, new and different, using Mythic.

Interestingly, this method would also work for adapting Movies, TV Series, Video Games, Short Stories, even Novels, into your own Adventure to play with Mythic.

So, does anyone else have solo play on their to-do / new year's list?

Just for fun, I'm playing a five player solo exhibition game of The Trouble with Rose at the reading room where I work. I have a table set up with the cards, dominos, character sheets, the rules, and an empty notebook. As I play a domino from each character's hand, I add an entry with dialog and action for each of the players. I see things move around from one lunch time to the next, so I know someone is taking a peek at the hidden cards and dominoes and maybe even browsing the rules. When I'm done, I plan to transcribe and post the whole game session online. :-)

FYI, The Trouble with Rose is a freebie here:

Alright, finally decided on a Engine to use when I have no idea which Engine to use.

TL;DR: It's CRGE. I love its simplicity, though I modified it to include some rules from Mythic.

I have just found this interesting solution:

Wasn't sure where to post this , and obviously it's just coincidence that it's in the "Lone Wolf" community here...

Just wanted to say that Quill is totes the hotness. I am so inspired for fan expansions. I know that it's not in the spirit of solo play, but it would also make a great play-by-email game.

So I'm curious… How many of the games people play alone are ones they have previously played with other people? It seems that, to an extent, it could be beneficial to indulge in multiplayer first, to get the "feel," of the game. On the other hand, since in general few people will be interested in our individual efforts, does it matter as much? :-) Purely theoretical question for the most part.

Vary valid comparison of solo board gaming to playing Video games 'solo' - I think if applies very much to Lonewolf Role playing :)

Inspiration struck hard today, so I'm developing a new solo game.

Inspiration struck hard today, so I'm developing a new solo game.

It's based on letter writing, with the aim to get a positive response to a letter you write in a light fantasy setting.

I'll be posting the final game soon.

Results of a 'Typical Goblin Lair' I'm going to make ready for DSII play...

I want your thoughts on how may Excel map looks, and if I can do anything to make it look more 'natural'...

My kind of game.

Last tabletop game of the year*: Apocalypse 1P by Pak Cormier. It's a one page solo game inspired by Vincent Baker's Apocalypse World. You draw a map, put your character on it, and come up with conflicts to roll for (as well as the shit that's bound to hit the fan if you don't hit 10+).

I played a pretty fun and bloody story, starting with a broken down recovery truck and ending in a pool of blood. It had cannibal apes, a concrete forest and a temple to an old god named Ollar. The cast featured Grunge the mechanic, Bubblegum the betraying hermit, America the battlebabe and an angry couple of road warriors, 2blade and Frenzo, whose baby** was mistakenly stolen by Grunge.

* That's 62 in 15 (with 52 different RPGs!) for #51in15 purposes.
** Every apocalypse story should have a baby.

Here is another document that seems like it could be very helpful for anyone who wants to try The One Ring solo. The author wrote it to explain his method for "how to play using improvisation rather than pre-written material." It includes a lot of tables that are used to generate story material on the fly.

First hand drawn map in along while ;)

First hand drawn map in along while ;)

Driven (mostly) by results from the 'Typical Goblin Lair' - part of Schweigs Themed Dungeon Generator...

Page size & desire for a compact & complete dungeon trimmed the results some ;) - I will create a better presented version when it comes to use it, in my solo gaming using Dungeon Squad II...

Also Im tempted to make the whole thing a building given the Shrine result at the back (an abandoned building)

Any feedback or thoughts?
