If you never had a lack of real live players, and could get someone to play at the snap of a finger, would you still engage in solo roleplaying? If you would, what does solo RPG'ing give you that the social  version can't?

Greetings all! Meandered my way through the interwebz this afternoon while trying to view a document from a blog. I've been RPGing for about five years now (I know, I got started late) both as GM and Player almost exclusively in a play-by-post format. Because I don't always have a game going, or because I'm being a Patient Person and waiting for someone else to post, and because I live in the town next to the Middle Of Nowhere, I often have resorted to using Mythic GME and similar resources to just game on my own. Thanks for existing, and Happy Gaming! :)

I'm embarking upon a series of articles about different methods of journaling solo RPG adventures.

I'm embarking upon a series of articles about different methods of journaling solo RPG adventures.

I've come up with these 8 methods:
verbal
keeping it inside your head
writing it as if its a novel
journaling
brief notes
drawing
animation
illustrated writing (a book with illustrations throughout)

What methods do you use and how do you do it?

Heya, just wanted to share a link to my new training course I've been, and am, working on.

Frustration to Freedom takes you through the very basics and to the point where you're able to have legendary solo RPG adventures.

The last orders for this course will be sometime on Monday (UK time).

I'm looking for a specific sort of beast, and I'm not sure one exists. I know Ewen Clooney is supposed to be making one, and I've checked Sophia Brandt 's excellent list.

I'm looking for a Madlibs style game. A journal keeping game of sorts. I've been fascinated with the idea lately. Does anyone know of such a thing, or should I get to hacking?

Random musing about Mythic:

Random musing about Mythic:

What if the "slots" on the Threads list were a limited resource? Meaning, what if you had a set limit on the number of Threads you could add to the list? How might this affect your solo gaming using Mythic?

Other variations on the thought: What if the limit was only on the number of unsolved threads? What if it was an absolute limit per adventure?

I've been somewhat lax about shameless self-promotion lately. Over on my blog, Tabletop Diversions, I'm posting a series on how to play an rpg solo (http://tabletopdiversions.blogspot.com/search/label/How%20to%20Play%20an%20RPG%20Solo the link takes you to the series so far, but you'll need to scroll down to get to the first post, or use the navigation on the right hand side of the blog).

This began life in 2013 during NaNoWriMo and continued in 2014's NaGaDemon. But in an honest assessment of my desire to spend my limited free time working on this project, it occurred to me that i was never going to complete it without holding myself accountable to a public of some kind. So, I have been hacking it up and editing it into posts.

Because I'm going from essentially rough draft to blog, I more than welcome comments. Indeed, the comments on the posts are where the really interesting stuff happens.

An experienced soloist may not get much from the posts - but your input might help others. My intended audience is the beginner, the people who send me messages asking how I go about doing it and how they can get started.

Eventually, I may go back, tidy it up and incorporate ideas and clarifications from the comments and offer it as a free download in a single PDF, but that day is not today.

Also, I wasn't really sure what category to post this to: Great Sites! seems self-serving in the worst way but few were less "brag-y" nor did they fit any better.

Hello fellow soloists!

Hello fellow soloists!
I wanna make a "general resource" blog post about solo rpgs and I'm looking for bloggers who post about solo rpgs.
I see a lot of blog posts in this community so if you want to be included, please link to your blog here.

In this post I want to write a bit about what I like about solo rpgs and I will list some solo engines I enjoy (and link to our collaborative resource) and your blogs as a resource.

This is a Tabijin update with a poll. I'm asking you guys since it's about a solo RPG product.

This is a Tabijin update with a poll. I'm asking you guys since it's about a solo RPG product.

Tabijin is designed to support group and solo play. The solo element is going to feature random tables so you can play random adventures every session instead of following the same book over and over again, and it's going to have minimal bookkeeping. It's also going to include some pre-made settings with less-random but not-quite-linear systems.

I've decided to work on and release one of the settings for playtest, to see how it gets received. Tabijin's going to have several settings included, and I'm not sure which of these I'm going to put out first, so you get to help me decide.

Do you want:
1. A Million Steps in Silence? This setting features a more-or-less Stone Age-level society that gets menaced by an enormous beast. Your task is to track it down and kill it. Do you have the resolve to travel so far from your home? Will you stand against the titan and avenge what you've lost?

One-sentence synopsis: Picture Shadow of the Colossus set in the Arctic.

2. Freebooters of the Bleeding Void? A far-future setting where the PC is a scheming liberator seeking to make a name for themselves. They travel to an oppressed world and attempt to overthrow the government and replace it with one of their own design. Will you rouse the rabble into a fearsome army? Do you have what it takes to found a dynasty?

One-sentence synopsis: Farscape/Guardians of the Galaxy meets James I of Sarawak.

3. Corsairs of Helios. A steam-powered world offers wealth, excitement and romance to the boldest adventurers. Take to the skies  with your fantastical ship and fight strange creatures, power-crazed despots and mad scientists. Will you find your way as a pirate and trader? Can you become the Scourge of the Sky?

One-sentence synopsis: Pirates of the Caribbean meets the Leviathan Trilogy.

There are more settings that I'm designing, but they're either too embryonic to consider at this stage (such as the setting where you play as a cloud), or too large to do in a timely manner (such as the setting where you fight history's greatest tyrants).

So what do you all think? Which setting would you like to see me do? Please make sure to leave a comment with your vote. If there's something you'd like to see instead, please still vote but leave a comment about what you'd like to see.
