For those of you that have run Solo Star Wars games. I was just wondering if you guys had a system for picking out a start location. I was figuring I could probably come up with a list of possible locations and roll at random, but it felt kind of weird.
I guess I've run so many campaigns over the years, that most of the usual starting locations seem old hat for me. Appreciate any advice you can give!
If you're looking to surprise yourself but not maroon yourself on a mysterious setting, pick two locations you want to use and roll to see which you use first.
ReplyDeleteI usually just pick one I like to start off. In my lateset game all the choices from there were either based on a look at a galaxy map to see what was nearby or else generated randomly with donjon:

I usually generate a starting location randomly.

ReplyDeleteHow do you generate the random starting location?
Chris Campbell custom table with the following entries: planet function, dominant terrains (2 rolls), government, starport class, special story element (e.g. violent and swingy weather, high crime rate, recovering from war or natural disaster, plagued by a disease etc.). That's what I need for the game. The finer details like mass, hours per day etc. don't matter much to me.

ReplyDeleteThis place has some sci fi generators
Thanks for the suggestions, everyone.
ReplyDeleteI'll check out the link, Chad Robb.
I've used donjon's system generator in the past, I was just hoping for an easy random way to pick an established world to start. But, thanks for linking it, I hadn't ported over the bookmark to my laptop yet, Gerard Nerval.
Chris Campbell, If it's an established planet you're after, these lists could be easily randomised:
