I didn't create this system, but I thought it might be of interest to some here. I've recently begun reading Ars Magica, and this looks like an inrtiguing way to run that particular system solo.

This makes me wonder about "generic," tools vs systems specifically designed for a particular game system. The impression I get around here is that most people seem to prefer generic oracles.

  1. How do you find Ars Magica? I passed on the recent Bundle offering once I saw the 4th edition rules were free (and seeing how my backlog of reading is already impossibly immense), but it sounded interesting.

The post you linked I bookmarked for later as I got a tad overwhelming about 2% into reading it. ;-)

P.s. Do i recognize you from the solo hangout with Sophia and Ray Otus that's on YouTube?

  2. Spencer Salyer Yep, that's me! I didn't realize it had been put on Youtube.

Ars Magica is definitely a crunchy, evocative system. It has lots of detail, but I enjoy the read, even if parts of it are very dense. I need to try that solo system, or perhaps a more traditional oracle, with it someday soon.

  3. It was a good chat between you guys... I learned a lot from it as a beginner. I'd be interested to know what sort of barriers you come into with all of this (e.g. story dice imagery, crappy PDFs, etc.) and if any web or software tools would help. I've a bit of experience with JAWS screen reader and its scripting language, but it was limited to exposing parts of a legacy government/military application to work with JAWS for 508 compliance -- tons of fun (sarcasm).
