With your help I made a list of solo systems/games/engines and other useful tools.

http://dieheart.net/solorpg/ [^1]

If you want to add something, drop me a line and I'll add it to the list.

[^1]: I abandoned the Google Doc because it was a hassle to keep two lists and you had to sort and it all manually. My wordpress blog has a link library which is easier for me.

  1. Although it's primarily intended for one-player/one-GM, Scarlet Heroes (http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/127180/Scarlet-Heroes) includes rules for true-solo play.

  2. Thanks for this! I had no idea there was more than Mythic and 9Q (and Scarlet Heroes). Now I feel weird b/c I've been developing my own, and I see ideas I had thunk up created independently too.

I'm really interested to see what the Coveteous Poet's book is like. Hopefully it goes on sale somewhere soon.

  3. Zach Best Personally I've found the Covetous Poet book a pretty poor effort. More something to cherry pick tables from then actually make use of as is.  (if you scroll down far enough I've done a more detailed review about it).

  4. John Fiore Sorry to hear that John. Perhaps you can give access to the 9Qs for those who don't have it yet? (I backed it up and will never lose it (I hope)).

  5. +Zach Best you can look at Konrad's review of the Covetous Poet in the Product Reviews and Recommendations folder. Makes it a bit easier to find.

You can also find a  9Qs backup at Aleksandar Battreps blog. However, you'd be missing out on a lot if you didn't join JF's site. (I will shortly too!)

  6. Microscope RPG can be used as great solo engine, as defined on Risus Monkey blog here:

  7. Storium.com  A new play by post rpg kickstarter. Although it's primarily played by a narrator and players, you can play it solo by being both the player and the narrator.

  12. Hey everyone, I changed the post to a google document so you can add other stuff yourself!

  13. Cool, I'll work on adding the links I mentioned this afternoon.  [I want to research some of them to provide a better description of what they do.]

  14. Ooh, that's a lot of interesting things to read and play. Thanks for compiling it, Sophia.

  15. Strangely enough, the tools and links that I wanted to add changed as I read through the doc.  The entry for Microscope got me thinking and I decided to add The Trouble with Rose to the tools.  TTwR is a character driven story telling game.  It provides a framework for creating scenes and I realized that is very similar to the way Microscope uses events in a timeline to set up a story.  You can do flash backs in TTwR as easily as you go 'back in time' in Microscope.  The Trouble with Rose is a freebie for those that are interested.

  16. Oh, added Chronicles of Arax/Blood, Zero Dice, Entanglements, The Trouble with Rose, and an automated version of the Mekton Zeta life path system (great for creating NPC back stories on the fly.)

  17. Todd Zircher Hey Todd, If you can think of a better way to organize the list, go ahead. It was just a starting point in my original post. Thanks for updating it.

  18. To be honest, engines and tools are good categories to work with.

  19. Added Treasure, looks neat and is pretty cheap.

  20. I added "Ruins of the Undercity", "Schweig's Themed Dungeon Generator" and "The Location Crafter".
Furthermore, I rearranged the list alphabetically (ignoring "the"). Many thanks to Todd Zircher for adding so much stuff.

  21. Added Kabuki Kaiser's excellent follow-up to "Ruins of the Undercity", "Mad Monks of Kwantoom"

  23. This is a great resource. Thank you. I have added DonJon to the list. That site has a great random dungeon generator perfect for solo dungeon play.

  24. "Beholden" is a game based on "Beloved" (see the list). It basically switches the roles, and adds another twist: You're a deity.

  26. Hey All, I think there should be prices listed for these in the Google Doc.
I am looking for Free and going through them one at a time looking for the Free ones is very time consuming.  I would add the prices myself but it tells me it's 'View Only'.

  27. Jacob Ross Solo Gaming Rules doesn't seem to be on DriveThru anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  28. There has been some controversy here because it got updated with a new file not given to previous purchasers.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Kurt Roesener this list is identical and I added free and PWYW in parentheses http://dieheart.net/useful-stuff/solo-rpg-resources/
Actually, I am not willing to go to the list again and add prices as they could change anyway. If you want to do that, I can give you permission to edit the Google docs.

  33. I just wanted to say thanks for building and maintaining this list, tons of great stuff! It can be a pain tracking down solo tools online, so a resource like this is worth its weight in virtual gold.

  34. Added Star Smuggler. Can't believe that any of us forgot about it.
