In the review I read (I linked it) the races are described as utterly alien; your comment about aliens who aren't just humans with forehead makeup made me think of it.
I also have a PDF of Veins. It has to be read in multiple sittings (besides being huge) because its so evocative you have to let your imagination settle down or it will drown out what you're reading.
Decided to pick it up. Looks good, though since today is my double shift, I'll have to wait until tomorrow to really sink my teeth into it. Thanks for the help everyone!
