HI Community! I am an old time rpg dude who has just recently found out about solo rpg's. I have looked at the Mythic ruleset for the game master emulator but someone here wrote in a blog post that it was old and cumbersome. So my question is what solo system (That works with any setting, i am mostly interrested in sci-fi or futuristic rpgs) i should try. I heard of Solo in a post here, it looks very interresting cause i am playing Traveller. I also looked at Miso, but it is a bit too small and just general yes/no rules from what i can tell from it.

Gerard Nerval I have Mythic and read through it and it is a bit bulky at times . My own thoughts and the blog post i read made me think that there are newer systems out there that handles things a little bit different and more streamlined. Looking at your post it seems to me that Solo is a good investment too. Your current space adventure seems very fun. Thanks for your comment.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything that has been said here so far.
ReplyDeleteI have moved away from Oracles based on dice and use Oracles based on images, whether from story cubes or other icons, fantasy and scifi art, or whatever I can find.
For example, I ask: What is the complication? Then I flip over a card of a giant slug and I have my complication. I may roll the dice to see if a complication occurs or if the NPC knows any information, but I really interpret the images.
You could also streamline down to a D6 for the 'yes/no' portion, with 'near impossible' being a 1, 'unlikely' being 2 or less, 'even chance' being 3 or less, 'likely' being 4 or less and 'nearly guaranteed' being 5 or less.
ReplyDeleteAnd then just make your own D6 random tables on the fly for anything that could have randomness or variation in your game.
