Sophia Brandt on her blog this week linked to the first post on Zach Best's site regarding the discovery and acceptance of his diagnosed esophageal cancer, and it really is an insightful read. It helps to clarify why designers were stumbling over themselves to add content to the wonderful Zach's Book bundle we now have to remember him with (and THANK YOU to everyone who participated!). I almost missed the link in her story, though, so I thought I'd call it out for everyone else to get a chance to read. He truly is a gamer at heart.
My weekend will be filled with read-thrus of Zach's published guides (CRGE, I'm coming for you!) and poking around on the great site he was part of, followed by a wonderful time on Sunday spent with my fellow parishioners, but speaking to God 'solo' and asking to keep Zach and his family in His blessings.
Though I'm new to solo RPG gaming and to Zach's guides, this story plays out far too frequently in my own life the longer I'm around. One day, we will beat cancer. One of my children will be dedicating his life's work as a chemical engineer to advancing biomedicine, with hopes that he can help cure diseases in some way. That is the best thing a parent can hope for, to have his child promise to do good, and to do better. In this time of political and social upheaval, it's the only thing I look forward to: for my children to transcend my accomplishments for the benefit of others.
Thank you, Zach!

Cool beans. The link is not from me, it's from one of the other G+ posts from this community. Alex Yari, perhaps.
ReplyDeleteI'm so grateful for Zach's work.
Sophia Brandt I really like what you do, even though I don't play solo games. Your podcast with Ray Otus was brilliant. Got me very interested in what you do and why.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, thank you Christo Meid . I am honored.
