So in a few places, I've seen references to a CRGE "kai" edition (hurrah Dragon Ball Z humor), but I can't figure out what the 'scene' rolls mentioned in reference to it are. Could someone who has experience with Mythic explain what they add to the CRGE experience?
As the guy who created the term CRGE-Kai (though it's more of a reference to what they call remodeled ships in the game Kantai Collection and unintentionally in honor of the Lone Wolf character of the same name), I can explain that.
ReplyDeleteCRGE Kai uses CRGE, but with two rules from Mythic.
In Mythic, you roll a d10 for every new scene. If they are equal to or below Chaos Factor (a number that changes depending on how things are going) then they trigger a change in scene, be they altered (Odd numbers) or interrupted by a random event (Even numbers).
There's also a rule where, if you roll doubles (from D100) when asking questions (provided they're also equal to or below Chaos Factor), that also triggers events, though a variant is to have doubles trigger random events regardless of Chaos.
CRGE Kai just adds these two rules to the engine to keep players surprised when playing the game. I'm always a fan of random chance changing the entire game, for better or worse, as it keeps the games fresh.
