  1. Ok, first of all, "random adventure starters" sounds awesome. And could be a real benefit for Solo gaming.

However, I wonder if this will really help your "persistent procrastination." I mean, if this is what you really want to do, then awesome. I'd love to be part of the discussion. But, if you're trying to get fro m 0 to Play, I think a project like this could be a distraction.

If you just want to play and need to "force" yourself, you might be better setting up a block of time once a week, and sit down and do it. Print out what only what you NEED, and do it pen and paper and get off from the internet. 'Cause, believe me, I've spent plenty time being sucked down a wikihole or arguing online when I should have been gaming. And it's weird, because I love Solo gaming, and I have a blast when I get in the zone.

So, again, this would be a great resource and a worthy endeavor. I'm just not sure it's going to solve the stated problem.

Either way, have fun and happy gaming!

  2. What Todd Rokely said.

You could, of course, make your adventure starter tables as you go. I frequently put together random tables on the fly to resolve a question or two in the midst of a session.

  3. Hi Todd Rokely I agree it could be a distraction, and I could use the same time to actually game.

However, this is something that has bugged me for ages, and if I don't do it, it will continue to bug me I think.

One of the things I have done (this week) is create a weekly schedule, exactly to force myself to accomplish my goals. Coincidentally it falls in a week when Easter and work commitments have laid waste to it, and I'm away next week, but then that's one of the reasons for playing solo.

At this stage it is more of a proof of concept, and to see if there is any demand for it. It seems so, so my current scribblings can be turned into something more concrete.

I will get to work on it this week, and hope to have something in two to three weeks.

  4. I did something kind of like this, I think, with Calypso's scenarios. Basically, I picked a genre or theme (like "paranormal investigation"), laid out guiding principles, then some open-ended/multiple-choice questions about the hero, then the same for "how the current adventure begins", then finished up with some charts of people, places, and things to fit in that scenario.

I don't think it kickstarted my drive to actually play solo, though, just my desire to write more scenarios, because they're fun to write and there's so many genres to model! Good for you getting a schedule on paper, though. :)
