I am unable to understand how to use some of the Solo tables in the back of the Scarlet Heroes rulebook. I am running what began as a wilderness solo adventure until I came across a dungeon.

I understand you first roll general type and then on the right of the table roll for size. But I do not get how the Dungeon inhabitants table works. Do you roll once on each column?

  1. Each row in the Dungeon Inhabitants table is a theme, such as Tidespawn. Columns represent different types of individuals, such as grants or mages, presented within the theme of the row.

The dungeon inhabitants first requires that you roll on the "Encounter Found" table, which tells you which type of individual(s) to use. You probably rolled the theme when you first entered the dungeon (although it would be fun to have a chance that a random theme may occur as a chance to add a random encounter).

  2. Thanks I think I understand now. Roll to get the general theme then if a minion is called for roll for a minion, etc.

  3. Example to make things easier:

When I enter a dungeon, I roll 1d20 on the Common Dungeon Inhabitants table and get a 7: lizard-based humanoids.

While my characters explore the dungeon, I hit an encounter. I roll 3d6 and get a 9, which 2d4+T(threat) hit dice worth of Minions and Elites.
I got over to the Dungeon inhabitants table. For my lizard-based humanoids, Minions are Lizardmen, Elites are Hunting Leader.

The description is just for flavor. If I remember correctly, all minions are 1 hit dice, Elites are 2 hit dice, and bosses are 3 hit dice (although honestly, look that up).
