Heh, sometimes solo play is about the journey. In this case, you're also laying out the crew roster and personalities. There are some systems the enforce story arcs and pacing, but I prefer sand boxes myself.
I always find starting without a plan either excruciatingly difficult or easier than my ideas of how things should go, but there's no middle ground. Sometimes a break helps me get back to it, though. T&T solitaires do wonders for clearing my head.
