I'm new to all of this, I only have time to play solo games because of work and really no one around me plays games as well. What are some easy to pick up games for me to play?

  1. Very useful thread, thanks. I personally love Mythic. It's the only one I've ever use though, so I have no point of comparison. Long ago, I used to play The Fantasy Trip programmed adventures, and the 1st edition AD&D "Dungeon Generator". For lack of better systems, you would just play and GM at the same time in the old days, uphill both ways, etc.

  2. Shane Ellswood Quill is an interesting rpg, in which you choose an specific character with three defining attributes. Then, it is your task to accomplish a series of scenarios by writing actual letters to a character that can be a fancy king, a mourning friend, or an art dealer, among others. Your letters however must comply with some requirements (which are unique to each task) in terms of vocabulary, emotion, and calligraphy. These requirements are determined in part by your chosen character, but also by three six-sided dice and the rolls you get. After you’ve written your letter, and checked your overall score, you receive a response that lets you know whether you’ve succeeded or failed miserably.

It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the resulting letter is an interesting element that you could even include into any other games you’re playing, as part of the plot or an NPC’s quest.

A huge plus is the fact that it is a free game!
