So, I picked up The One Ring RPG off Bundle of Holding the other day on a bit of a whim, thinking it could be super cool. After a few days of reading it, I still think it could be cool, but I'm wondering if it's worth all the layers of the system.

Does anyone have experience playing TOR solo?

  1. Mark Brady The mechanics are really interconnected. I consider myself to be fairly adept at using complex systems, but, man, in reading through these rules there were a few times I wished I had one of those corkboards covered with a spiderweb of pins and yarn to really get a sense of how everything came together.

Unless I get a healthy burst of courage, I'll probably look harder at Ironsworn...or just make a LoTR hack using Genesys.

    Thanks for everyone's feedback!

  2. Ryan B I laughed out loud at your comment. Good luck with whatever system you go with. It also might be worth looking at Adventures In Middle Earth. It's a D&D 5e expansion based of TOR by the same authors. 5e is a fairly ok solo system so might be a starting point for your hacking. Looking forward to hearing your adventures whatever you go with.
