Is this an actual play? I'm not sure, but it's all the solo-goodness I've had going this week.
I've always been guilty of over preparation for solo games. My new fascination with Maptool and current Frostgrave project have amped that up to 11. However, it has been a lot of fun puzzling through the macros and figuring out how to make it all come together. I finally managed to finish all the card components and the macros for all of the spells, weapons and (I think) all of the conceivable roll types and effects. Now I can get on to the project of actually building my warbands.
I finally got the warbands done, since I couldn't sleep last night and began the first skirmish. So far no major problems with any of the macros.

The calm before the storm. I had to set the game aside for the moment, but Cold Winds Wizard and Treasure Hunter are about 1 turn away from facing down Flames of Justice's Apprentice and Marksman.

Just curious, are you maintaining a separate journal for the non-tactical elements? Wondering what the flow of the game is so far.
ReplyDeleteTodd Zircher not for this game. Frostgrave being a skirmish scale wargame, the narrative plays out in my head and through the combat mechanics. In essence, I've just digitized it to match the way I would play it with physical figures. In my T&T Dungeon Door games, I do have notes and narrative info recorded to refer to later on.
ReplyDeleteOkie dokie. I like the effort that you have put into it. Back in the day I created a virtual map and counters system for my own PBEM and solo gaming. So, I can understand the passion. It's also dang convenient if you have critters or small children that like to move and/or eat your game components. :-)
ReplyDeleteTodd Zircher that was the big motivating factor, because my cat is a cat. Also, because of my schedule, games were having to be left set up for longer and longer periods of time. By going digital, I'm not taking up desk/table with a game that I may not be able to get back to for days.
ReplyDeleteSo I recognize (and dig) the map assets you're using, but what are you using for the character tokens?
ReplyDeleteDaniel Luce as you noticed, the map is from Links Awakening. If you Google search for the map he you can find the whole overworld in a single image.
ReplyDeleteThe sprites are the character select images from maplestory. I haven't played that game but they were exactly the style I wanted. Essentially I was shooting for Frostgrave meets Fire Emblem.
