Hello!

Hello!

With the new material like #Mythic Variations 2 and #Libre coming out, I am wondering how many people are already experimenting with them.

Personally, I have started using Mythic Variations 2 a little while ago, first in improving Lovecraft's Revenge and now in a new game using Mythic and Mythic Variations 2 together with the scene setup from Libre (or rather parts of it).

Thus far, I have got the following impressions:
Mythic Variations 2: The biggest problem I have is that while theoretically modular, all checks expect you to use the fate check with its limited range for the Chaos Factor. There are only modifiers for the smaller range and not for the full 1-9 range. When using Mythic as your RPG, you are already using the fate chart for skill checks etc. anyway, so the fate check does not add anything.

I have thus far mainly used the Details Check from Variations 2 and have found that sometimes, the initial result can be really difficult to apply. However, at other times, it adds a nice spin to things. My Mythic session has not progressed very far yet, so I can't comment on the effectiveness of Variations 2 at focusing the narration, but I have a hunch that it will do a lot to keep things in line.

I am looking forward to using the Behaviour Check as I always love unexpected content.

Libre: At the homepage, you can download some reference sheets with lots of tables and some explanations, including their scene setup. I am now using that setup with my Mythic campaign, basically first doing the normal setup, then rolling up scene qualities and window dressing and then adjusting the setup before starting the scene.

Thus far, just as expected, this has been very inspirational, adding things that would have never been in the scene otherwise and making it more memorable. Thumbs up for that.

Anyone else having first impressions or ideas to share?

Yours,
Deathworks

  1. Hi all, I've been a lurker in this & other solo RPG groups. I am the author about to publish Libre Solo Role Playing (file is up on the DTRPG/RPGNow site now; it'll go public at the flip of a switch). To DW's point, I just posted the blog entry below about why you might not want to buy this game. Once actual money is involved I don't want folks to feel that I misrepresented the product.

  2. Eh - I spoke a little too quickly. Forgot that DTRPG has a review before posting a new product. So I will imminently flip the switch that makes the request, that will soon publish the e-book on the site. Um. :)

  3. I've messed around with various frameworks and I think it's just a matter of finding the amount of structure that works for you, you know? like I've done really strict ones, and those actually work better for me (where I have to keep a goal in mind, and make at least one required check, for example) because it keeps me on track. I love Mythic but I never remember to increment the chaos factor! But give me a token for doing whatever and I'm so there. :D

Brian Washburn That sounds awesome! Will be looking for it!
