I tried out a few things with the start of a new solo attempt. It may be a campaign, but for now I'm just having fun toying with it. For the first session I used the Otherkind dice mechanic as the core rule system. I also tried out my idea of beginning with the ending and playing towards it. However the dice results gave me a different unexpected ending that made sense, so I went with it.

The first session was pretty short. I think if I keep going with it, I may stick to my pre-determined scene counts. I also want to make a more dedicate effort at playing through to the pre-determined ending, having to work around the curve balls the dice may throw at me.
ReplyDeleteThat's neat! Very enjoyable to read, and I think you captured the "feel" of WWE really well. And I love otherkind dice. Did you find it felt somewhat stop and go because of the assignment? I often waffle between otherkind style purchasing results and a more one-and-done style like AW.
ReplyDeleteTam H Otherkind is a great mechanic for maintaining my flow. If I'm in the right frame of mind that ideas come easily, you're essentially creating a custom oracle on each roll with the dangers you choose. It lets me combine semi-random story elements with action resolution. On the other hand, if I'm not inspired Otherkind tends to fizzle pretty quick.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's my experience too! I find the brief pauses to think up alternatives gives me a really nice "ebb and flow" kind of thing.
ReplyDeleteDo you plan on doing anything with the tags, mechanics wise? Just curious.
ReplyDeleteGabriel Fuchs For this project, I'm not sure. I've used them in the past for Otherkind powered skrimish games. If i have a Witch Hunter who's relations include "Hates Witches" (relations tend to be broader for those games) then I need to know who is or isn't a witch. That's where I started using tags.
ReplyDeleteAlso everything on a profile for my Otherkind games is up for grabs when weighing advantage vs disadvantage. If it's one or the other I roll an extra d6 and drop the worst/best. So they could still see some use, even if I don't push it further.
