For simplicity (and sheer nostalgia), the AD&D DMG appendix. If I have time and the inclination to prepare something, Schweig's Themed Dungeon Generator. If I want it all figured out for me, Catacombes de la Ville Morte (Ruins of the Undercity).
I've new and prefer portability, so I've only tried the pocketmod (print, cut, and fold mini book) d12 generator v3.0 by john yorio. He refined the system in 4.0 and 4.1 versions, but those versions incorporate a deck of playing cards (and no pocketmod version to my knowledge). tabletopdiversions.blogspot.com - Random Dungeon Generator PocketMod
I have Ruins of the Undeecity and Castle Gargantua and because of the suggestion I got the Mad Monks of Kwantoom last night (looks good) I have Four Against the Darkness. It has a nice d66 table for dungeon geomorphs. Lots of interesting tables on Abulafia and Elfmaids and Octopi.
Lino, can you share what you've got so far? Or just tell us what you're working on? I'm inspired by the gusto and industriousness of this community. Makes me wanna make stuff.
Chad Robb The random generator is based on the Bivius rule # 12 and is included in the upcoming Bivius fantasy sourcebook. I am late in the deadline, the system is currently in Beta, it is still to be translated and formatted.
Chad Robb Thanks you very much for the offer but the text is still fluctuating and changing. Google translator has been a really help for my previous games indeed. I would appreciate If you want to try the game when finished (hopefully very soon), it is always very interesting to know the opinion of other players, especially for such a personal game as Bivius. :)
Jeremy Rist - For geomorphs it's pretty easy to create a deck, shuffle and rotate. You still need a system to populate them, but that's something I leave to the RPG rather than a generic tool. Like an oracle, many times a geomorph will spark a story idea as well. Who built this, why was it made this way, what would the primary inhabitants do to make it more secure? It's like a mini eco-system with a little imagination applied. I remember back in the day having the equivalent of gang turf wars with the various dungeon dwellers each 'owning' a geomorph tile.
Only one? Mad Monks of Kwantoom.
ReplyDeletein these days my own generator
ReplyDeleteDon't know of too many, but I'm happy with Scarlet Heroes.
ReplyDeleteAD&D 1E DMG is the grandaddy of them all, but you can do worse than donjon.bin.sh. But MMoK is maybe one of the best.
ReplyDeleteI'm still a big fan of geomorphs.

ReplyDeleteWould you say your dungeon has an Italian flavor?
ReplyDeleteA lot of Sword and Sorcery movies from the 80s were directed by Italians.
