Solo game on the Deal of the Day

Ooh! How to Host a Dungeon is the Deal of the Day today! $2 for a very fun solo experience to create a dungeon with a history and some fun stories. I don't even like dungeon crawling and this game was interesting.

Does anyone know why the download has two files? Usually when they do that, one is color and the other is printer friendly, or one is portrait and the other is landscape. These seem to be identical.
ReplyDeleteNo idea why there are two files, but from what I’ve read, the author has been polishing his system. Maybe one of the files is an updated version?
ReplyDeleteTurns out I had bought this previously. The available download is v1.5. I had an older version. I'm going to see what I can figure out from the pdf metadata.
ReplyDeleteAnd Foxit Reader isn't showing me anything useful regarding dates of creation/modification.
ReplyDeleteI will note that one difference between 1.5 and previous editions is that there isn't a separate section for surface kingdoms anymore.
ReplyDeleteAppendix 4 is all about Using your Dungeon in a RPG.
ReplyDeleteI've bought the game from DriveThru (thanks for letting us know it was on sale), and the second file won't download in my case.

Same here. I tried on my mobile: one file downloaded and the other produced an error.
ReplyDeleteI got errors on the second file until I went to the old format. Like I said earlier, it appears to be identical to the first one. I haven't done a point-by-point comparison, but it's close enough that you can't tell from a cursory examination.
ReplyDeleteGreat game... I've been following the author's progress on v2; he has a G+ group. I just posted a question to that group concerning your issues with the files at DTRPG, hopefully that'll help some of you out.
ReplyDeleteplus.google.com - Hi, +tony dowler! Some people on the Lone Wolf Roleplaying G+ group purchased...
I like HtHaD, but I don't think I'd call it a game. My choices, as a player, are too limited.
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't mean this is not a good product. Far from it! I love it.
But I consider this more as a simulation than a game properly. I love to see how each session unfolds, how the backstory of a whole megadungeon can be created...
Yet consider this view from someone who played (a lot) the v1. Since there's a v2 in development, I can't say anything about that so far.
Marcelo Paschoalin Fair point, I'd agree it's more of a simulator. Maybe a tool? 'Macroscope' reminds me of a similar feel to it, though you can actually get in and "play" the timeline you're creating with it (and it's not truly a solo device, like HtHaD)...
ReplyDeleteDan Davis Yep, a tool would describe it perfectly. I've used a few times to generate a dungeon and then I used another system to dungeon crawl there. It was really fun.
