Having recently received my PDFs of the new Numenera rules, I've got the Ninth World on the brain. Have any of you done solo play using Numenera (or the Cypher System generally)? How did it go? Do you know of any play reports?

  1. I love Numenera but it's pool system is wonky I love that enemies are given a level, they deal that much in damage and their HP and AC is three times.that. I'm trying to solo using Carcosa using rules adapted.from other systems.

  2. Carcosa is similar to Numenera in that it's Weird Science fantasy. The ultraterrestrials and monsters between dimensions would be fine in that setting.

  3. I'm reading through the v2 Numenera PDFs also.

It seems like the new armor rule is going to require less mental overhead and the new crafting/community building rules are right up my alley.

Honestly it seems like if you don't treat Numenera like DnD, and lean into the non-combat related content that RPGs can provide, it could be a nice system to solo in (so basically playing this particular game as it was designed and intended).

It also helps that I read "Jack's Intro" a while back, that's when the Numenera system really "clicked" for me:

reddit.com - r/numenera - Jack's much shorter "Introduction to Numenera Ability Pools & Hit Points," for Pathfinder, D&D, and Tides of Numenera fans.
