The Dark Eye: Guildless - Session 0. Character creation for a guildless mage using fifth edition The Dark Eye rules for a coming solo campaign.

Inspired by Alea Iactanda Est’s outstanding (but too short) solo adventure using the fifth edition Das Schwarze Auge rules, I picked up the English translation of The Dark Eye and decided to use it for my next solo game. To get started, I grabbed…

  1. Carsten Rossner Interesting rules differences! Rolling under 3 stats that average 10.5 would be quite difficult (12.5% chance of success without skill points?).

I'll let you know how it goes! I've already started the next session, but it's probably going to take a few days to finish.

  2. Great set-up! Someday I really want to try a 1000-point wizard game, though it will probably be using a PC in their final year of apprenticeship ina guildhall.

Character generation gets easier with familiarity. My first DSA5 PC took at least 2 hours, but now I can throw one together in about 20 minutes. Or 15 if I use the (PWYW) Optolith Character Generator: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/220253/Optolith-Character-Generator

I can't wait to see where Wilhelm's path leads. I feel suddenly inspired get back to my own DSA adventure as soon as I have time.

  3. Gerard Nerval I'm just a bit into my first session, but I think we're dialed in on what the low-point mage represents. Wilhelm is serving out essentially the last years of an apprenticeship with a country magician of some influence but fading personal power.

Your comment about character creation getting faster is a relief. I'd hoping to eventually try a game with my wife, but I spent HOURS on this and know for a fact that that isn't an option for a game I want her to play.
