This reminds me that some day I need to clean up my notes and post the adventurre I ran where a single 1st level character goes off into the world, meets a bunch of NPCs, and eventually lives to attain 2nd level. The character in question is not, of course, the one I started with, but an NPC that graduated to PC status when everyone else died and I didn't feel like quitting yet.
Gerard Nerval That was my goal--I had hoped to assemble a Company in Bree or something, perhaps even including an enterprising and sneaky hobbit, before heading to Fornost. Alas, truly awful rolling awaited me on the road from Rivendell.
