My first posted solo session!

My first posted solo session!

Inspired by DamnElfPress's blog, I have started trying to post my solo sessions to provide some accountability/continuity and keep myself playing.

Here is the first of my posted sessions, a single-PC Pits and Perils game that has now expanded to four sessions. I'm pleasantly surprised by the narrative created using just P&P, Mythic, and the GameMaster's Apprentice deck.

Please take a look and let me know what you think! I'm not sure yet how much mechanical vs narrative content to provide. I'm trying to keep each session fairly short (session 4 is the longest so far).

  1. I read all 4 installments. Nice use cliffhanger endings for the posts.

    My personal Mythic house rules also make the odds dependent on the likelyhood of the question rather than the chaos level; I once played a horror-theme adventure from Mythic Variations 1, and the Chaos was stuck at 9 for about 36 scenes -- 'no' answers became almost impossible to roll.

    Blogging combat encounters is both an art and a science. I find that what works best is mentioning the important rolls and mechanical details, or at least just the ones that stick out. I tend to put more of them in my notes than make it into the final post. I also condense the narrative of multiple uninteresting rounds into one paragraph, and relate things out of strict initiative order for readability's sake.

  2. Nice to see someone else experienced Mythic's quirk, which is to lay on events like mad. I was doing a Three Bones session and it felt like it was making me incorporate an event every time I rolled. Made for some chaotic storytelling.

  3. Sam H. Thanks for reading, Sam and Gerard! Sam, one thing I did was drop the insistence on event type from Mythic. By just using the idea of a forced incorporation of the keywords, I think I was able to guide the story a little less chaotically.

    It's a lot of events, especially if I ended up pulling something like "introduce NPC" 3-4 times in the wilderness. How many hermits/hunters could my guy meet? My dropping that aspect of it, it really just works as a "spin" creator.
