Hey everyone, I'm new here, and I'd like to invite you to take a look at my first actual play.

It's a game inspired by the setting of James Cameron's Avatar but with dinosaurs and ice age-type neanderthals/village people (maybe a bit more advanced). I think. The game's kind of taken a life of its own.

I'm using Fate Accelerated (although I used Fate Core for game creation) for the ruleset and the Mythic GME and have just posted my first session.

I did do a session 0 too, if you're interested in seeing the game creation part of the actual play: http://firstfox2.blogspot.com/2018/06/solo-ap-fate-accelerated-ice-age.html

If you do pay my brand new blog a visit, please let me know what you think.

Thanks!

  1. First Fox2 That actually looks better to me, thanks, even though you didn't have to cater to me! I agree that the high amount of whitespace can hurt the eyes just as much, at night. That's why I tend to use lighter tones of colors for backgrounds for my actual plays, like: abandonedbrain.wordpress.com - Tavern on the Edge of the Dwindling Forest (or, my idea for a fantasy bar-management game)

  2. Ken Hubbard Happy to hear that, thank you! I was worried that the setup and the different colours would get confusing, but I'm glad you liked it.

With regards to the bad decision on spending the last Fate point - you're absolutely right, it was the wrong move to make! I play Mythic with the style of swapping the different roles, like wearing different 'hats', kind of. I know some people like to play as the PC only and get Mythic as the pure GM. For me, I play both roles. When it's time to do the GMing part, I wear the GM hat and get Mythic to help, and when it's time to play as the PC, I wear the PC hat. So I realised I'd screwed up as the GM when I made that decision to spend that last Fate point, but I had already rolled and gotten the result, so, just like I would have in a group game, I didn't retcon it just 'cause I changed my mind, and left it in. I hope that makes sense!

Now that it's been mentioned twice, I'll leave the interpretations in there from now on. Thanks for the feedback!

Part of the benefits of role-playing solo is that I get to take my time to learn the rules of a system without the pressure of stuffing up in front of other people. So I plan on trying out all the rules of Fate and Mythic eventually (I was thinking of trying out The Location Crafter, also by Word Mill, for the next session, but we'll see).

Aerzyk Thomas Thanks so much! I see what you mean, but according to the rules as written, the Success with Style in a contest means you get 2 victories rather than a boost: fate-srd.com - Contests

Dan Davis Not at all, I want all of my readers to have a comfortable experience. The elderly are an important part of our community too! :P

It's funny that you posted that particular blog post, I was recently thinking about how you can incorporate resource-management into RPGs! Will definitely have to have a read of it some time. Also, you're right about your colour scheme - it's really easy on the eyes.
