Hello all,
Newbie asking for help. I am a little bit lost regarding solo roleplaying, so would like to ask for good intro pages. Mythic and stuff like that is giving me a hard time here :/ and I am fairly sure there are good introduction pages to solo RPGing using more newbie-friendly methods and engines. As such I love here to ask about good pages and maybe even rulebooks for solo playing. I am not much into dungeon crawling myself, so other rulebooks might be preferred (even if I do not oppose crawling either!). So, where do you think I should be starting? Thank you all a lot in advance!!!
Here is what I use to answer questions (I also thought Mystic GME was too complex). This is a version of MISO's yes/no Oracle.
ReplyDelete1) Ask a question and create two or more answers.
2) Determine how interesting/probability each answer is. Give each answer a die (I use a d10 as the default). If an answer is more interesting/probably, give it a larger die (d12, d14, etc…). If an answer is less interesting/probably, give it a smaller die (d8, d6, etc…)
3) Roll, the highest number is the answer!
There is also 9Qs Solo RPG engine. Answering these 9 questions will help you run a session.

I've played a lot of solo magician games -- even AD&D, though that's arguably not a good idea at low levels, unless your PC teams up with others on occasion or simply collects a stable of Charmed creatures. If the game doesn't focus on combat/dungeoneering, it's probably no harder to be a lone wizard than any other character type. If you ever need advice on starting a magician game, I can offer plenty.
ReplyDeleteLike Todd Zircher said, ultimately whichever Oracle you use is personal preference. It's more about getting a feel for when to ask questions and what questions to ask, then letting the oracle surprise you with its answers.
ReplyDeleteI was really impressed by this actual play post using the rpgsolo.com tool. When I was first starting solo play, I found it very instructive (and a good read!). It's a great example of asking questions and taking the results to logical conclusions.
