Have you taken a look at the Aladdin technique? Search for it on the this group. It seems like a good way to add some weirdness or unexpected aspects to situations in-game. Various solo engines have scene and twist mechanics. Those seem like good XP spots and intrusion triggers. I have not taken the chance to Numenera solo yet. The only Cypher game I have attempted solo thus far is "No Thank You, Evil", and I haven't made it past initial situation setup.
fisheromen1031 cool, haven't heard of that one, will check it out. for others who are interested in numenera solo, i'm a couple of sessions into a game using the Jade Colossus supplement, which has a pretty extensive ruin generator section that's great for solo play. I'm using so1um and story cubes for anything not covered by the core rules or the ruin generator and it's going well. except that I just realized i'd been ignoring the xp issue... 😮
Gajus Miknaitis Jade Colossus sounded like it would be a great resource for a Numenera-geared random generator. It is exciting to hear that someone is actually doing solo play with Numenera. If you are interested in sharing any game logs, I would be very interested in reading them. :-)
I guess I could take pics of my chicken-scratch notebooks. Would you really want to read those? In any case, I think I might have come up with a good way to mechanically introduce intrusions. As I said, I'm using so1um, which has a d6 oracle, with the least favorable result being "No, And..." That could be an ideal time to insert an intrusion. I'll report back if I end up liking it.
Ooh, color me curious about people's thoughts and experiences.
ReplyDeleteReally interested in this setting, but solo is the only option for me. Keen to know how others handle this one solo too!

ReplyDeleteGajus Miknaitis, if your handwriting is bad enough, we could use them as in-game artifacts! See, nothing is wasted. :D
