Poor Valtyr. He just can't catch a break. I'm having a better experience with Libre than Mythic or Covetous Poet's. I might change the location rolls into Story Cubes, especially since the Civilized vs Wilderness divide didn't cover the subject matter I was looking toward. All in all, I wouldn't change the oracle all that much.

Deathworks DW I may have missed a few plot stress in #3 and 4. I think it's supposed to be every yes/no, skill check and round of combat.
ReplyDeleteFor asking for trouble #2, I did flip it to make the question more troubling in my head. I wanted the trouble to be immediate, like, if it said no, he would've just slid down into the mass of people as soon as he took off.
The multi-layer affair is still undecided. I have a slightly different approach I want to take. But I'm leaving it to the sessions to eventually determine yes or no.
Edit to add: Thanks for your review, by the way. I was hesitant but gave in; it's been a fun oracle to use. Definitely will be used in the next session with Wendy as Laneira...

ReplyDeleteHello!
You are welcome.
Now that I am trying it out, I have my expectations confirmed in many ways. There is quite a number of things I need to get used to, given that I usually do simulationist/sandbox gaming, but I am really intrigued by the scene setup process (although it forced me to retrench my second scene). Okay, scrap that, I actually love the scene setup procedure as it forces me to be creative.
Personally, I don't see it as a candidate to replace #Mythic as that is my go-to for solitaire sandbox gaming, something Libre simply isn't designed for, but it does offer me the option to do structured adventures with a beginning and end. I bought the #Covetous Poet, but I simply can't get along with the strict number of scenes it imposed - that just feels unnatural for me for an RPG. While Libre uses the meaningful successes to clock the game, since you can also add cut scenes and throw in the towel, you are not locked in such a fixed structure.
Yours,
Deathworks
Deathworks DW Pretty much my impressions as well. I prefer Libre' s Plot Stress over Chaos Factor; it feels more tangible. Mythic has the better charts, though. A little more open ended. I really wanted to like Covetous Poet more than Mythic, but I just couldn't work as well with it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe a mash up of Mythic Libre or something. It also occurs to me, either could be used to populate the Location Crafter charts. My concern with Location Crafter was not generating enough content.
