More Cthulhu Dark Solo Prose Action! This time we explore nightmares and work on an undersea habitat. Harvey Mills, drone operator, will wake from one nightmare, but the horror of reality may make him wish for his terror-wracked dreams.

  1. Very nice. Are you using an Oracle for this?

  2. Thanks! Regarding oracles, I don't use one often at all, it's mostly just me thinking up a couple of Creeping Horrors, think about how the protagonist isn't high-up in whatever power dynamic exists, and then just writing. (Creeping Horrors are what Mills will experience when he rolls a 6, or what will pop up when he gets closer to the final horror.)

What you've read is the result of multiple drafts. In the earlier drafts, I will get to a place, decide the last couple of pages of writing isn't great, and then roll things back to Mills' prior state (clues and Insight) and go forward from there in some new direction.

When I have used one for these APs, I use Miso. Honestly though, the random encounter aspect of rolling a 6 and facing the Horror is pretty great, from the Cthulhu Dark system. That kind of feels like an oracle unto itself, in that anything Mills tries to do can result in him encountering the horror (or evidence of it). So I never know when it will edit itself in.
