Remember Tomorrow - Maxim Wargentin vs AIWA Entertainment - Face Off Scene
I'm continuing to use the same GM/Player dialogue format since it helps me immerse so well. I took on the GM role again since I have more knowledge right now than the character, Maxim, does.
As usual, I've put the complete actual play information on a spreadsheet, which is linked at the blog post.

I don't tend to describe a lot of details if the generator doesn't give them to me. I usually make ample use of the 'expected' concept in my head, instead. The drink was a small thing that I was curious about. :) I don't know what kind of person likes Old Fashioneds, but now I keep thinking of Don Draper (Mad Men). Not necessarily how I picture Maxim, though.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the motivations of the player, I was having a hard time coming up with how AIWA, via Ali, would go after Maxim in a subtle way without me assuming that the player catching on from the beginning, because things are already framed by the game as a Face Off. I had to assume some level of cooperation, or it would not have made sense (to me) that Maxim would be so trusting of Ali. :)
I have my own questions now regarding Maxim's character and his relationship to Ali. That last line about it all being part of the game implies to me that he should have been somewhat less trusting. Maybe it just goes along with how he isn't really a good businessman; perhaps his instincts about people aren't as good as his instincts about art. I may get/create an answer if I get to play as him.
Thanks for the feedback! If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't be thinking about the implications regarding Maxim's personality.
Thanks for explaining your thoughts. I'm glad my comment has hepled you develop a character's personality!
ReplyDeleteLittle details like the Old Fashioned can really bring a character to life. If Maxim doesn't fit the stereotype, there's potentailly a good (back-)story about why he drinks them. I once figured out a Call of Cthulhu character by the initial decision that he always took lemon in his tea.
