I've recently been using my downtime in the evenings for some solo Mythras gaming in a grim fantasy world. One thing I wonder from everyone here is, how do you play out unraveling conspiracies and court intrigue? Since there is no GM to really make the conspiracy, it's difficult to piece together the rolls of the dice or tarot cards and what not. How do people do this?
I've used the Court rules and random tables from Kevin Crawford's Godbound to generate story seeds. Fill in the blanks based on what I understand of the setting and make sure to hook the characters. Add Mythic GME to taste.

ReplyDeleteA more structured way of handling these might be to first create/generate a rumour that your character has heard (e.g. 'Count Agos is plotting to take over Duke Becul's village'), then imagine how your character has heard it (patrons, spy network, whispering spirits) which can guide your first scene. From there, you can imagine what information you need to find out (how is the Count planning on doing this, when and why) and figure out how you can go about getting that info (do a favour for one of the Count's soldiers, chatting to courtiers, scouting the village) which can guide your subsequent scenes. Finally, once you've got the info, you can choose how to react to the conspiracy (present the Duke with proof, attack the Count, help the villagers organise an ambush).
