A thing I did to use with The Vigilante Hack, or any other Supers game. The Patrol System + the other random tables should contribute a lot to Solo play in this genre. I'm really excited for my Lone Wolf brethren here in particular to take a look at it. :)

Here is a thing I've been working on for a while: It is a source book/Patrol Encounter System + extra random charts for use with "The Vigilante Hack" or your Supers game of choice. This is the first full "polished" draft. I may give it another pass at some point to add an in-depth description of the crimes & what they mean, but it's fully usable at this point.

  1. lino pang Indeed, you are correct. You will not encounter all types of Encounters in all districts, Some are more or less likely than in others, depending on the makeup of that district, giving them each a different flavor.

Street Gangs are typically encountered in Street Fights, which the River District DOES have a chance of.

Chinatown proper is actually considered fairly peaceful. Low criminal activity for the most part, & no gangs. The Chinese gangs would be active in the sections of town with all the other gang activity. It does have a chance of Suspicious Persons though, whom you could always follow & find is a gang member meeting in secret for example.

Suspicious Persons, despite the fact that I DID include a chart of specific types of, was originally the most vague & ill-defined of them all, and the most open to GM interpretation.

Many of the encounter types were TBH (IE Vehicular Crime can be a lot of things. So can Assault. Etc, etc)

This was all by design in the OOP RPG supplement itself from which The City and its Encounter Chart were cribbed & the serial numbers filed off. ;)

Divorced from the fluff text, & with no explanation given I suppose it doesn't seem to make sense now that I think about it. I'll have to add an explanation of the "why's" of the chart & some brief fluff of the districts at some point.

Its worth mentioning BTW that one needn't feel obliged to use the Specific Crimes Chart. If the Encounter Type is sufficiently inspiring or descriptive enough for the game you're running, then roll with it! I know I needed more definition in most cases though.

In conclusion, thank you for the feedback! It helped me see things I didn't think of! :)

Originally I was just doing these charts for my own use, but I put so much time & effort into them I thought it a shame not to share them, especially since they fill a void that I've seen in Super's RPG'ing for a long time. I'd looked for a long time for such a thing.

The aforementioned product was the closest thing I'd found, but it still wasn't quite complete ENOUGH to satisfy. The categories were still a LITTLE to broad. This was by design for GM's running the game. But for a Solo player I felt the need to narrow the focus even more. Which is why I decided to do it myself.

Its being OOP was another deciding factor. I wanted something out there that everyone had access to. And there was a little bit of a cumbersome interface on how to roll chance of Encounters, & the fact the chart itself isn't labeled with Districts, & the "nature" of the districts aren't clear at a glance without skimming the fluff text. I really wanted to be able to look at the chart, see each district labeled, & be able to "read" what it's all about at a glance, which I hope I've succeeded in doing.

Sorry to ramble, but I hope I've filled in some of the background on where this thing is coming from.

Hope you enjoy it & find it useful! :)
