I haven't checked this out yet but apparently this is designed for group, one on one, & solo play, so I figured I'd share it here in case no one else has caught it

The Ironsworn fantasy RPG is in final editing and playtesting. The 180 page preview release is a complete game, and free to download. It is suitable for guided play (traditional GM), co-op (two or more players, no GM) and solo (just you!)

It is inspired by the move-driven mechanics of Apocalypse World, but tweaks the formula quite a bit. It incorporates new dice mechanics, a la carte character creation and advancement, and moves that are intended to support a compelling narrative progression even at a GM-less table. It has been accused of being a bit crunchy, so if you don't mind some meat on the bones of your narrative RPG, it might be worth a look.

The setting is a rugged frontier at the edge of the known world. Extensive guidelines for adjusting the world to your preferences are included. Or, you can use your own setting. Either way, your character will venture into perilous lands and struggle to fulfill sacred vows as one of the Ironsworn.

I would be thrilled for folks to give it a look!

  1. Shawn Tomkin Started making my first character for Solo play (my son is sick, didn't have time to finish the character). On my Epic Vow that my character will spend his life time doing, I rolled double 4's on the Challenge Dice, and a 1 (+2) on the Action Dice! At least it wasn't double 10's... Though I'm liking the sound of double 10's vs a 1...

  2. I’ve been really enjoying it out of the box so far; as it’s own game it’s fantastic, and I’d argue has more or less everything you’d need for solo rpg. Scarlet Heroes (which I still adore and need to get back to one of these days) may have a contender for most complete out of box RPG solo experience. But it’s also got some great systems that could probably work with some rejiggering to adapt PbtA games to more solo friendly play; I’ve got some ideas for characters for The Veil I’d like to give a shot and trying to mesh the mechanics of the two seems like it could be fun. Just thought I’d mention it as it seems like a lot of us like tinkering and cobbling things together from new or newly iterated mechanics.

    TLDR;
    It’s great, both as a game and a toolbox of mechanics and oracles. Could be a great reccomendation for first time solo roleplayers.
