I blame this new arrival on Peter Schweighofer's excellent article on resources for solo play. I will probably pick up a few other items from his post including his Themed Dungeon Generator!

  1. I gladly accept that blame, thank you. :) Untold is a fun game on its own (especially for introducing story elements to kids), but it's a nice solo gaming toolkit on its own. And Rory's Story Cubes of any variety can serve as some inspirational roleplaying game resources, solo or otherwise.

  2. I also got the Fright, Strange, and Clue dice sets so I can wade into some horror investigation games!

  3. John Fiore I'm leaning more toward a 1970's Kolchak the Night Stalker. ;)

  4. I highly recommend his Themed Dungeon Generator. I've found it quite useful, and by simply changing the descriptions (corridors to hallways, chambers to rooms, etc) and seeding it with appropriate enemies (thugs, gunmen, watchdogs, etc) you can easily use it to create a modern 'dungeon' such as a warehouse, office building, underground bunker, etc.

  5. John Fiore Thank you for your fantastic work. The game is clearly informed by your years of playing, running & designing games.

  6. David North Great tip & I can see that can easily be applied to sci fi/futuristic 'dungeons' too.

  8. Tim Snider Fright & Clue are great! Clue goes really well with Batman too for Supers. I just ordered the new sets, including Strange, this week, so I'm really looking forward to adding it. :)

  9. David North I'd just been contemplating such an adaptation to dungeon generators for "modern dungeons", as you describe, for my upcoming "Vigilante Hack" game. :)

  12. I got an email from the Creativity Hub telling me my copy of Untold Adventures Await will be arriving to my house between Wednesday and Saturday. I think I'm going to be spending the week thinking up a scenario to run.

  14. As I anxiously await Untold's arrival I'm curious if anyone has taken it for a spin as a solo tool/engine. Thoughts?

  16. I've been working so hard on my projects while I'm on vacation that I haven't either. Now that I think I'm finished, I hope to tonight!

  17. Only got halfway through my solo game but created a new setting, character, played 2 and something scenes. Kicked it off with a bang with some fast & furious action. Introduced some dark forces & left my guy in their clutches. So I'm favourably inclined. It provides a solid structure & creative prompts for episodic storytelling.
