Not my blog post, but saw a link to this on my Facebook news feed the other day and I've found some of the tables helpful for a modern game I'm playing. Instead of going through the entire process, I've been picking and choosing which tables I need for a specific encounter. I especially like the "What are they armed with?" table, as using a different size die can cap the possible results.
