Hi all, new to the community but longtime lurker. Just a quick thought I have been reflecting on recently - how many of you solo using pen and paper, and how many do so digitally (OneNote, Google Docs, etc.)? I have mostly used the former for solo gaming to try and escape my screen, and have used OneNote extensively for running group sessions in D&D and SWRPG.

Just curious!

  1. I go full digital with the software I wrote. I usually use a laptop but hope to move to a tablet.

  2. I do reference PDFs etc on phone or tablet while still keeping paper notes. I've used 3x5 note cards to summarize rules, track lists, make character sheets, etc. to minimize the screen involvement when I can. And also enjoy using and creating portable and minified versions of things like a mini Fate chart and John Yorio's pocketmod dungeon generator.

  3. Everybody has made a lot of interesting points. I'm currently running a Fantasy Flight SWRPG campaign I've titled "Alone in the Core." To date, I'm using two notebooks - one for ideas/campaign sketches and random notes, another to record/narrate the story and record the associated rolls. I have few printed resources (character sheet, a different solo engines, etc) and the FF adversary cards should be arriving in the mail this afternoon. Depending on location/timing, I use either physical dice or the FF SW dice app.

So far it has worked really well. It has been a nice, quiet, (mostly) screen-free exercise in gaming. I'll probably back it all up to OneNote with the Office Lens app soon and then make it a regular habit. I've even toyed with the idea of starting a blog, so... I've been having a lot of fun! Thanks to everyone for their ideas! This is a great group!
