How do you guys deal with solo situations wherein I want to see if my character knows something or can recall knowledge of something past? Are these kind of situations not conducive to solo play?
I ususally just extrapolate based on my PC's background. Sometimes it's a good way to flesh out their personalities (moreso for newer characters) as the answer to 'Do they know X?' tends to imply something interesting about their lifestyle or past.
If it isn't obvious, though, I usually ask the Oracle. I am also a big fan of the Idea roll from Call of Cthulhu, and have used it in other games.
I try to think of it as "what would I do if I was a player at a table". I'd just ask my GM if I knew the thing. I do the same thing in solo, ask Mythic if I know. These are the times I remind myself that I am the player(s) and let the GM do it's job.

the K.I.S.S. principle is always important.
ReplyDeleteI ask the oracle: "does the character remember something relevant from the past?"
