    Reminds me of the time my party of 1st level PCs encountered a vampire, thanks to the D&D Expert set wilderness encounter tables.

    Gerard Nerval Yeah, early D&D sprung some really off the wall random encounters. Made fleeing a very viable option.

    James Carr Absolutely. Though in this case, they'd just hit town (that being one of the columns) and as luck would have it, the vampire's reaction roll came up as 9, Talkative. I got quite the sub-plot out of that one.
