Hi. This is my first post on the community.

Hi. This is my first post on the community.

I have been a gamer all my life and have a wide range of experience in different types of games. Being interested in board games and design, I have followed a tabletop game podcast called "Ludology" which covers all aspects of tabletop game design.

Now, most board games are multiplayer affairs and so not designed for solo play but there has been an increase in the number of games that can be played solo such as Pandemic.

A recent episode was about making single player variants of multi player board games and I thought it may be of interest to some of you. It lasts about an hour and can be found here:

If you have the time to listen, I would be interested in any opinion you may have about the podcast content. What do you think of it?

  1. I listened to the podcast for a second time yesterday.

One take away that I have is that board games are games that are "played on the rails" with a fixed set of predefined rules, components, and victory conditions. It is even possible to predict how long the game will take. An RPG on the other hand, is played with rules and (maybe) components but the element of a victory condition or end game is often different. RPG players, that I have seen often dislike the idea of playing on rails that a Board game will provide. Heck there are even railway themed boardgames.
