Hello guys! I think that probably we already had this topic here somewhere, but I think it's worth returning, so: How did you start your solo RPG life? How was the first idea, insight about play solo?

Hello guys! I think that probably we already had this topic here somewhere, but I think it's worth returning, so: How did you start your solo RPG life? How was the first idea, insight about play solo?
Well, with me it was after a game of "Shotgun Diaries" ... in this game, every time you take "6" in a roll dice you can describe what happens in the scene of your character; and in one of the matches with a friend (the Master), I rolled a 6 ALL times! Then he said, "Man, you did not need me on this adventure!"
And then I thought, "Man, I think I can do it at home ..."
The rest is history ...

  1. I discovered a draft of Ewen Cluney's Magical Burst after watching Puella Magi Madoka Magica. I knew there was no way that my group would run or play it. I also had Mythic GME on a back burner as a curiosity. It clicked that I could combine the two and play test the MB rules. Going full spiral, I plan to run/play Magical Fury (the PbtA sequel to MB) as part of #SGAM2017.

  2. It was probably running a party of my own through Keep on the Borderlands using the Moldvay basic set. But I also got ahold of Best of Dragon magazine volume 1, which contains the predecessor to the Appendix A random dungeon generation in the AD&D Dungeon Masters Guide.

  3. I'd never even considered RPGs as something you could play alone, so for decades I never played. One day when playing pretend with my kids I realized we were really role-playing as I was "directing" the story with my character and they were responding as PCs. I found RPGs designed for kids and started playing with them, but I also was not content to stop there!
Due to my family life amd work schedule, I have no opportunity for social RPGs, so I started to look for ways to play without location and time constraints. Roll20 and the like seemed great, but you still have the time constraints to deal with. I next found Play by Post type games, but those seemed to always fizzle out (though I still want to try sometime). Finally, I discovered solo role-playing, Sohpia's Dieheart blog, and the game was on!

This all spurred me to create WispsOfTime.com to focus on this intersection of family games and solo play that seems to occur in a lot of working adults.
