Hey. After months of umming and ahhing, I've finally made my first somewhat serious attempt at running a solo game for myself. Then I took the advice on Die Heart (I think that's where I read this?) and wrote it up to share.

Welcome to the solo rpg club :-) Nice session report. About the GM emulation: I have made the experience as well, that you need very little emulation the more the rpg system supports mechanics that push the narrative (like those famous Yes, but..., No, and... etc. mechanics. But that's a good thing. Don't force the use of a dedicated emulator. Sometimes something like the die of fate you mentioned (1-3 bad, 4-6 good) together with a random idea generator (story cubes, Mythic Action Subject table) is all you need to run a great session.
ReplyDeleteCarsten Rossner I agree. An idea generator and a binary oracle (possibly qualified with AND / BUT) are all you need in most cases! As the BIVIUS system exemplifies, you don't necessarily need an RPG system....
