Ever tried to play an RPG by yourself?

I have some ideas about it.

  1. I'm thinking this is a proposal for a gamebook kind of thing? Love the idea of a new series of gamebooks, of course, especially ones with a nice crunchy mechanic set

Pythia actually sort of supports that type of thing, as scenarios. It's pretty basic since I didn't have time to write up an actual full scenario myself and wanted to finish the core functionality first.

I linked the post where I talk about the potential and some theory a little, it's from September so that tells you how much time I've actually had to work on it.

I should say Pythia maybe supports it because I totally might have broken that functionality since I'm up to like 1.3.0 and I haven't checked it in a while. Haha.

Upshot is, I think solo gaming techniques, using oracles and existing tools, could be really neat when mixed with a more rigid gamebook style. I just figured I was the only one interested in such a theoretical hybrid!

I mean, if you just want a gamebook or CYOA style adventure, there's a huge Twine community producing stuff constantly. Lots of apps. Several companies doing nice stuff, some of it with stats and continuity.

What I'm interested in is mixing those techniques specific to solo gaming with gamebooks.

  2. Sounds like it, but along the lines of Barbarian Prince and Tales of the Arabian Nights (as far as the condition based plot advancement goes).
