So military SF is a soft spot of mine, mostly thanks to the Honor Harrington series, which is weirdly addictive. I picked up Redemption from DriveThru RPG yesterday, and am now wondering how I might go about solo-ing something which seems pretty group-focused. I think where I run into trouble is playing multiple characters, I have enough problems with one other person in my head. :)
Has anybody done anything with this kind of focus? Are their any tips for keeping more than one PC viable? I've seen PC emulation used with multiple characters before, but find that whole concept a bit counter intuitive.

MoonSylver You may want to check out Diaspora if you are familiar with FATE. It is Hard SF setting for Fate, that offers, among other things, a spaceship combat mini game approached from RPG, and not wargaming point of view.
ReplyDeleteIt allows you to play PC as part of the crew. Your PC is participating in combat with his personal aspects and skills that are relevant within his role of gunner/drive engineer, communication officer or whatever.
The Captain and the rest of the crew are modeled by aspects and skills assigned directly to the ship - so you basically command two PCs - your character and the ship you are on, where ship is the more important one and your character can only help when his skills are relevant.
MoonSylver well. Captain NPC, and your Ensign PC in the assistant team hoping to make the difference and meanwhile roleplaying
