A few people have asked about Ironsworn here so I thought I'd be a bit forward and post a link to my blog where I have started a solo play of it in my own take of the Horizon Zero Dawn setting.

A few people have asked about Ironsworn here so I thought I'd be a bit forward and post a link to my blog where I have started a solo play of it in my own take of the Horizon Zero Dawn setting.

Up front, I am not a writer and this is my first time doing any solo roleplay so take it for what it's worth. But any constructive feed back is appreciated.

  1. Laurent Gosse Thanks. I'm really just learning the solo thing, but I really am enjoying it!

  2. John Risus I didn't see it noted on your blog, but are you solely using Ironsworn's solo tools for your actual play reports, or are you using a mix of other tools (oracles, charts, etc.)? I just read through your first few posts, and I'm definitely going to finish them today. Better hurry up and play/post! :D

  3. Dan Davis I have, and plan to exclusively, to use just what is natively in Ironsworn. Well, I take that back, Shawn Tomkin has been kind enough to create a custom Asset pack for the setting, so that isn't actually 'native' but it is author created.

Take a look at the mechanics section at the bottom of my last post. The Ironsworn tools (oracles) have COMPLETELY upended my expectations in a good and amazing way! I know I sound like a raging fan-boy, but I AM!

I am glad you like the story, I do too and can't wait to get back to it. Do to RL and having holidays early due to schedules my time is limited currently, but I will get back to it. I have too! I have to know what happens to Nikkel. And that is saying something - as I just mentioned to Shawn, Nikkel in this short of a span has become her own character, not my character. If that makes sense? Which speaks volumes to the capacity of what Ironsworn can do. When I played in groups with other systems, characters become what I wanted them to become. Ironsworn characters, in my limited experience, become who they are meant to become... I even speculate that it is possible for a player to not even like who/what the character becomes, as they are their own embodiment of events within the story. I know that may sound crazy... that a character can become so divergent to a player's expectations, but it kind of feels that way to me, I think if you can let your personal desires and expectations go with Ironsworn, I feel it can really open up an amazing story! (/fan-boy rant)

But, stay tuned, Nikkel is on her own journey of discovery and I think it will become a surprise/interesting for everyone!
