Spencer Salyer, I'd say it's more indicative of me and my outside interests rather than simulationist gamers generally. It's certainly possible to play a simulationist game with just a rulebook and a GM willing to make stuff up on the fly.
The game system I'm using is pretty light as far as rules go. But I want verisimilitude in the historical setting, so I go overboard there.
Gotcha. I've looked briefly at Ars Magica 4th ed (freely available) and quickly got overwhelmed but it seems like possibly a good fit for what you're doing here?
I've snatched the LotFP bundle up when it came out, so I'm hoping to dive into that soon. (Or maybe the Palladium bundle I bought before that :-() Looking forward to the rest of your game!
I feel conflicted about Ars Magica. It's got a great magic system that seems a lot like something they would have come up with in the middle ages.... without actually resembling medieval magic at all.
