Some people made reskins.
Perhaps that's what I want to do.
First, loosely define the world with evocative places and characters.
Then anticipate what manner if trouble you'll get into and assign the flavors of trouble a die or pool of dice and write yourself a table for it.
Add more tables to taste. That's wildly minimalist.
Have you experimented with this method?

I've done reskins, certainly. Not exactly what you're talking about, but it sounds intriguing. Will you post an AP?
ReplyDeleteI read over it a few times before going to sleep and woke up feeling more solid.
ReplyDeleteI will share my results but I don't have a blog at this time.
I do have a lot of pictures though.
Yes, I've done a few experiments with similar one page games, on my blog (under games, near the bottom). With an eye towards the quirks of solo.
ReplyDeleteWarning: It's addictive! You can't make just one!
For game design contests I find that Ghost/Echo is a great framework to work with. For one I created Ghost Bard (the theme was Shakespeare), for another I totally reworked the wording and layout but kept the game intact (it was an editing practice/challenge thing.) I even made a The Trouble With Rose playset based on G/E. Yes! You can't make just one. :-D
ReplyDeleteI have some chores to do but I've created two settings using rough broad strokes. Weird Sci Fantasy Post Apocalypse (He-Man + Carcosa) and Grimdark Fantasy (Barrowmaze + Silent Hill)
ReplyDeleteIf I can restrain myself, I'll put off play testing or generating a system till the end of the day so I can be productive.
Otherwise I'll have something sooner.
But my brain is spinning on this right now.
